Summary: MYB and BBX transcription factors regulate flavonoid biosynthesis in woodland strawberry. Overexpression of FaMYB5 in woodland strawberry increases anthocyanin and proanthocyanidin content in roots, stems, and leaves. Interaction between FaBBX24 and the N-terminal of FaMYB5 is confirmed. Co-expression of FaBBX24 and FaMYB5 in cultivated strawberry promotes the expression of key genes involved in flavonoid biosynthesis and increases flavonoid content in fruits.

Summary: In this study, the FaMYB5 transcription factor was identified as a regulator of flavonoid biosynthesis in cultivated strawberries. It activates the expression of F3'H and LAR, leading to the accumulation of anthocyanins and proanthocyanidins. FaEGL3 and FaLWD1/FaLWD1-like proteins interact with FaMYB5 to enhance regulatory efficiency. Additionally, the expression of FaMYB5 is constitutive in various tissues and developmental stages, contrasting with the fruit-specific expression patterns of FaMYB10.

Summary: In this study, we identified a MADS-box transcription factor, MdJa2, which plays a role in regulating the synthesis of anthocyanin and proanthocyanidin in apple. We found that MdJa2 interacts with MdBZR1 and the complex enhances the binding of MdJa2 to the promoters of downstream target genes. These findings provide new insights into the regulatory mechanism of MADS-box transcription factors in the BR signaling pathway controlling the accumulations of anthocyanin and proanthocyanidin in red-fleshed apple.

Summary: Mitophagy, an important cellular process, is critical for maintaining mitochondrial quality control. While its role has been well-studied in mammalian cells and certain model organisms, the significance of mitophagy in fungi, especially pathogenic filamentous fungi, is still in its early stages. Recent studies have found that mitophagy plays a vital role in spore production, vegetative growth, and virulence of pathogenic fungi.

Summary: The expression of vimentin and the tumor-stroma ratio have been shown to be significant prognostic factors for cancer patients. This study aimed to investigate their predictive value for neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) outcome in locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) patients. Imaging mass cytometry and immunohistochemistry were used to determine the association between vimentin and tumor-stroma ratio and nCRT response in LARC patients. The results showed that the combination of vimentin and tumor-stroma ratio can provide additive predictive value and may be a promising indicator for nCRT response in LARC patients.

Summary: Long-term usage of thiamethoxam has posed a serious threat to non-target organisms and ecological security. In this study, a novel polyvinyl alcohol/sodium alginate/biochar bead was used for immobilizing a high-efficiency thiamethoxam-degrading bacterium, Chryseobacterium sp H5. The results showed that the immobilized microbes in the PVA/SA/biochar beads exhibited significantly higher removal and biodegradation rates of thiamethoxam compared to other immobilization methods. Additionally, the PVA/SA/biochar beads showed increased tolerance to extreme conditions. This work suggests the potential of the PVA/SA/biochar beads for effective bioremediation of thiamethoxam contamination.
