This review summarizes recent advances in the chemical structures, food sources, and bioactivities of anthocyanins and proanthocyanidins, as well as discusses recent developments and trends related to products derived from these compounds, providing insights for related research and inspiring future studies to harness the potential of these plant pigments.
Anthocyanins and proanthocyanidins are widespread in the plant kingdom and are involved in important bioactivities, such as antioxidation. These flavonoids can reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, cancer, high blood pressure, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes; consequently, they are widely studied for disease prevention and treatment. In this review, we summarize recent advances in our understanding of the chemical structures, food sources, and bioactivities of these compounds. We also discuss recent developments and trends related to anthocyanin- and proanthocyanidin-derived products. This review provides insights to inform related research and inspire future studies to help realize the potential of these plant pigments.

Fourier regression model predicting train-bridge interactions under wind and wave actions

The clinical features, treatment, and prognostic factors for peripheral T-cell lymphomas: A single-institution analysis of 240 Chinese patients

Summary: This study analyzed the clinical features, treatment, survival, and prognostic factors of Chinese patients with peripheral T-cell lymphoma (excluding natural killer/T-cell lymphoma). The results showed that the current treatment outcomes for most PTCL subtypes are unsatisfactory, and consolidative autologous stem cell transplantation and failure to achieve complete response after first-line chemotherapy are independently associated with poor prognosis.

Current opinions on mitophagy in fungi

Summary: Mitophagy, an important cellular process, is critical for maintaining mitochondrial quality control. While its role has been well-studied in mammalian cells and certain model organisms, the significance of mitophagy in fungi, especially pathogenic filamentous fungi, is still in its early stages. Recent studies have found that mitophagy plays a vital role in spore production, vegetative growth, and virulence of pathogenic fungi.

Vimentin and tumor-stroma ratio for neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy response prediction in locally advanced rectal cancer

Summary: The expression of vimentin and the tumor-stroma ratio have been shown to be significant prognostic factors for cancer patients. This study aimed to investigate their predictive value for neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) outcome in locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) patients. Imaging mass cytometry and immunohistochemistry were used to determine the association between vimentin and tumor-stroma ratio and nCRT response in LARC patients. The results showed that the combination of vimentin and tumor-stroma ratio can provide additive predictive value and may be a promising indicator for nCRT response in LARC patients.

Impact of the leading atmospheric wave train over Eurasia on the climate variability over the Tibetan Plateau during early spring

Summary: This study investigates the structure, maintenance mechanism, and impact of the March Leading Eurasian Wave Train (LEWT) on the Tibetan Plateau (TP). The results show that the positive phase of LEWT leads to enhanced precipitation and moisture transport in the western TP, weakened precipitation and moisture transport in the southeastern TP, and pronounced surface air temperature warming due to the anomalous warm high located over the southeastern TP.

Summary: This study demonstrates the regulation of growth mode and optimization of crystalline quality and surface morphology of AlN films during MOCVD growth. It is found that 2D growth mode introduces tensile stress and promotes dislocation and crack generation, while 3D growth mode produces rough surface. These results provide important guidance for understanding the AlN growth mechanism and preparing AlN-related epitaxial structures.

Evaluation of the interannual variability in the East Asian summer monsoon in AMIP and historical experiments of CAS FGOALS-f3-L

Summary: The evaluation of East Asian summer monsoon simulations can improve our understanding of monsoon dynamics and climate simulations. This study analyzed the model simulation skill for the interannual variability in the East Asian summer monsoon. The results revealed that the historical experiment performed better in reproducing the spatial pattern and time frequency of the monsoon variability compared to the Atmospheric Model Intercomparison Project (AMIP) experiment.

Alterations in levels of cytokine following treatment to predict outcome of sepsis: A meta-analysis

Enhanced biodegradation of thiamethoxam with a novel polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/sodium alginate (SA)/biochar immobilized Chryseobacterium sp H5

Summary: Long-term usage of thiamethoxam has posed a serious threat to non-target organisms and ecological security. In this study, a novel polyvinyl alcohol/sodium alginate/biochar bead was used for immobilizing a high-efficiency thiamethoxam-degrading bacterium, Chryseobacterium sp H5. The results showed that the immobilized microbes in the PVA/SA/biochar beads exhibited significantly higher removal and biodegradation rates of thiamethoxam compared to other immobilization methods. Additionally, the PVA/SA/biochar beads showed increased tolerance to extreme conditions. This work suggests the potential of the PVA/SA/biochar beads for effective bioremediation of thiamethoxam contamination.
