Summary: This study aimed to scale up the encapsulation process of heavy metals in clay from laboratory to industrial conditions. Sludge from the galvanic industry, considered highly polluting, was mixed with clay used in traditional ceramics. Two shaping processes, extrusion and dry pressing, were used, followed by sintering in industrial gas kilns. The specimens were characterized for mechanical and esthetic properties, and the impact on the environment was determined using the toxicity characteristic leaching procedure (TCLP) method.

Summary: The United Arab Emirates has abundant solar energy resources, suitable for photodegrading wastewater. The waste from the galvanization industry, galvanic sludge, was used as a photocatalyst to degrade 4-nitrophenol under natural sunlight. The galvanic sludge was characterized using various techniques, and the optimal conditions for degradation were determined through parameter optimization.

Summary: The study assessed the use of electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) combined with borehole data to analyze the spatial variability of groundwater storage in weathered/fractured basement rock aquifers. Results showed the importance of hydrogeological conceptual constraints provided by ERT and the influence of clay minerals on resistivity data in accurately predicting groundwater storage properties. The study demonstrated the potential of resistivity tomography for quantifying groundwater storage heterogeneity in such aquifers with reasonable uncertainty.

Summary: The corrosion behavior of the CuAl-NiC abradable seal coating system in chloride solution was systematically investigated, with a focus on the effects of porosity, multiphase, and multilayer structure on corrosion failure. Interphase selective corrosion and interlayer galvanic corrosion were identified as crucial factors leading to the corrosion failure of the system.

Summary: Electroplating sludge (ES) generated by the galvanization industry is highly toxic due to heavy metals. Recovering and reusing the metals can reduce toxicity, lower disposal costs, and provide an economically and environmentally friendly alternative. Recovering the metals from ES can enhance the corrosion resistance of galvanized products.

Summary: A multi-physics coupled model is proposed to investigate the temporal and spatial evolution of galvanic corrosion with an anisotropic deposition layer, revealing the coupled relationship between electrochemical behavior and physical processes. The deposition layer with anisotropism generates a non-uniform conductivity and current density distribution. The competition between transport processes and electrochemical reactions determines the spatial-temporal evolution of ion concentration.

Summary: Many studies have focused on the investigation of dispersed nanoparticle photocatalysts on a laboratory scale. In this study, a spherical fountain photoreactor prototype was presented, coated with galvanic sludge to prevent agglomeration and increase surface activity. The photocatalytic reactor achieved an efficiency of 90.4% in the degradation of 4-Nitrophenol under natural sunlight. Specific surface area, pore volume, pore diameter, shape, and agglomeration were analyzed, revealing changes in morphology and crystallinity. The fate of 4-Nitrophenol during photodegradation was elucidated, and a toxicology assessment showed a decrease in toxicity. Economic evaluation determined the cost of treating 1 m3 of wastewater with this photoreactor model to be USD 10.8/m3.

Summary: This paper discusses the possibility of extracting zinc from waste galvanic sludge. By leaching the sludge and adding oxidizing agents at different temperatures and time intervals, followed by filtration, precipitation, and electrolysis, high purity zinc can be obtained. This method may be the optimal way to establish a semi-industrial line for galvanic sludge recycling.

Summary: Research has aggregated findings from literature on the elemental and mineralogical composition of sludges from neutralisation of acidic emissions, with a focus on zinc. The study found that zinc is present in high concentrations and includes phases with high potential environmental mobility. Zinc recovery seems feasible and would enable disposal of a less harmful residual.

Summary: The study found that ZRE with a graphene content of 0.3% showed the best corrosion protection effectiveness. When the graphene content is lower than 0.3%, the coating porosity decreases, reducing the corrosion rate of zinc and extending the cathodic protection duration of the coating. However, when the graphene content is higher than 0.3%, the galvanic corrosion between graphene and zinc powders increases the corrosion rate of zinc, leading to a shortened cathodic protection duration.
