Summary: Exercise training improves skeletal muscle health through various adaptative pathways. Nrf2, an important antioxidant transcription factor, is crucial for the adaptative responses and beneficial effects of exercise on muscle. The study suggests that Nrf2 plays a critical role in the adaptive effects of skeletal muscle and its response to exercise training.

Summary: Protein-protein interactions (PPIs) are the main mode of proteome organization in cells. Traditional PPI networks lack contextual information. Generating context-dependent PPI networks is necessary for structural and systems-level modeling, but remains challenging. In this study, an experimental/computational strategy is described to achieve contextual modeling of PPIs.

Summary: Drought has a significant impact on tomatoes, leading to tissue dehydration and decreased yield. The key genes involved in dehydration response and tolerance in tomatoes are still not well understood. Dehydration decreases the relative water content of tomato leaves and promotes the content of malondialdehyde and ion leakage. Dehydration also triggers oxidative stress and enhances the activity of antioxidant enzymes.

Summary: This study investigates the functional interactions within the core machinery of Unc18 and SNARE proteins. It reveals two key interfaces, Habc-Unc18 contact site and Unc18-SNARE motif contact site, that are essential for synaptic transmission. Moreover, the study demonstrates that the SNARE and Unc18 machinery in C. elegans can be replaced by yeast proteins while still maintaining synaptic transmission, indicating deep evolutionary conservation of these two interfaces.

Summary: During ageing, there is a decline in the function of the glomerular and tubular basement membranes (BM) in the kidney, which is caused by damage accumulation to the extracellular matrix (ECM) protein structures. Peptide location fingerprinting (PLF) is used to identify ECM proteins with structure-associated differences in ageing. This study found alterations in functional regions of key BM components, reflecting age-dependent shifts in molecular and cellular interactions, oxidation, and the release of matrikines. The findings also revealed shared susceptibilities in BM components across species and organs.

Summary: Complexome profiling is a method for large-scale, untargeted, and comprehensive characterization of protein complexes in a biological sample. The Comparative Clustering (CompaCt) approach allows automated integrative analysis of complexome profiling data from multiple species, enabling systematic characterization and comparison of complexomes. This method has been applied to analyze a collection of complexome profiles from different species, leading to the identification of novel candidate interactors and complexes, and shedding light on the evolution of metazoan protein complexes.

Summary: In this study, graphene oxide (GO) nanoparticles were introduced into a poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide) (PPO) membrane to improve its pervaporation performance in the dehydration of ethylene glycol (EG). Through a series of experiments and tests, researchers successfully developed a PPO/GO composite membrane and found that the supported PPO/GO/MFFC membrane exhibited the best permeation properties in the dehydration of ethylene glycol.

Summary: Exo70B2 acts as a subunit of the exocyst in the immune response pathway and is involved in regulating transport into vacuoles through interactions with ATG8 and dependence on autophagy. Phosphorylation of Exo70B2 affects its localization and interaction with ATG8, ultimately impacting effector-triggered immunity and sensitivity to BTH. This study provides insights into the molecular mechanisms that divert Exo70B2 from secretion to autophagy for degradation in order to modulate secretory activity during immune responses.

Summary: This article investigates the functionality and polarization of the glymphatic system under normal conditions, as well as the effects of traumatic brain injury and seizures. The study found that injury may disrupt the polarization of the glymphatic system, leading to brain edema. Additionally, sleep deprivation, which often occurs during military operations, could compromise glymphatic function. The study suggests further exploration of the effects of military threats on the glymphatic system and the proposal and evaluation of preventive and therapeutic measures.
