Summary: Here we report a bacteria-based strategy for remediating heavy metals in waterbodies, which is efficient, reasonable, benign, and promising. The study involves isolating, screening, and characterizing heavy metal resistive bacteria, and conducting batch studies to examine the bioremoval results under different conditions. Mechanistic actions are analyzed using complementary techniques such as SEM and FTIR. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of the isolated bacterial strains in removing heavy metals in simulated water samples, showing great potential for industrial applications.

Summary: The study reveals that the Cys proteome of Bacillus cereus undergoes dynamic changes during growth under fermentative anaerobic conditions, reflecting its growth-phase-dependence. Many reactive Cys residues involved in various cellular processes and metabolic pathways were detected as reduced during the growth process.

Summary: This study found that ultrasound treatment led to significant changes in the proteome of Bacillus cereus spores, mainly related to metabolism and cell processes pathways. Particularly, the expression of key proteins involved in the phosphorylation reaction of spores and tricarboxylic acid cycle were significantly decreased, affecting the nutrient metabolism of the spores. Additionally, down-regulation of fatty acid synthetase expression and promotion of fatty acid metabolism were observed after ultrasound treatment, resulting in decreased fatty acid content in spores.

Summary: The diverse bacterial communities inhabiting fungal fruiting bodies have a potential regulatory role on fungal polyketide mycotoxins production. The release of bacterial volatiles significantly promotes the production of fungal perylenequinones (PQs), while direct contact suppresses PQ production and degrades the existing PQs.

Summary: Bacillus cereus can resist the toxicity of malachite green and efficiently decolourise it. Through proteomic analysis, it was found that the differential expression of proteins in B. cereus during MG biodegradation was enriched in metabolic processes, catalytic activity, antioxidant activity, and responses to stimuli. Proteins involved in the benzoate degradation pathway may play an important role in the biodegradation of MG by B. cereus.

Summary: The study revealed that both individual PLA and LA can disrupt membrane integrity and morphology of cells, with a stronger effect observed when used together. Proteomic analysis showed that PLA and LA impact cell transport systems for K+ and phosphorus, as well as disturb ribosome function and metabolic processes.

Summary: In this study, bioconcrete with the indigenous bacteria Bacillus cereus KOV15 and Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (GGBS) as partial replacement for cement was investigated. The mechanical and durability properties, as well as the microstructure of different mixes of bioconcrete, were studied. The results showed that bioconcrete exhibited significantly increased compressive, tensile, and flexural strengths compared to traditional concrete. The presence of calcium carbonate in bioconcrete was confirmed through XRD, SEM, and EDX analyses. Bioconcrete also demonstrated lower permeability, higher acid resistance, and improved load deflection behavior compared to conventional concrete. The indigenous Bacillus Cereus KOV15 strains can be utilized to produce sustainable construction materials like calcite-based biocement.

Summary: This study aimed to examine the improvement in bacterial cellulose (BC) production by co-culturing Bacillus cereus and Komagataeibacter xylinus. The results showed that the BC yield was enhanced after co-culturing, and acetoin and 2,3-butanediol produced by B. cereus played a key role in this enhancement. The immobilization of BC also facilitated oxygen acquisition in B. cereus.

Summary: This study analyzed the differences in nutrient content and protein expression between two hulless barley cultivars, revealing that the C2 cultivar has higher levels of beta-glucan, protein, and amylopectin compared to Zangqing 2000. The DEPs in C2 were associated with multiple important metabolic pathways, indicating more biological activities in this cultivar. PRM analysis confirmed the accuracy of quantitative proteomic data, providing insights into the molecular mechanisms of seed nutrient biosynthesis and accumulation in hulless barley.

Summary: This study evaluated the safety of doenjang and ganjang according to the different manufacturing methods. Both traditional and commercial products were found to be contaminated with aflatoxins and Bacillus cereus, although the levels of aflatoxin exceeded regulatory limits. However, the manufacturing method did not significantly affect the safety of the products.

Summary: By analyzing 1104 high-quality genome sequences, this study identifies the core proteins and lineage-specific fingerprint proteins of various evolutionary clusters of the Bacillus genus. The majority of Bacillus species show a low number of species-specific fingerprint proteins, suggesting that species-specific adaptations may be attributed to changes at the gene regulation level. The identification of lineage-specific fingerprints has potential applications in the development of specific vaccines, therapeutic molecules, or molecular tests for species identification.
