Summary: Liver disorders are a leading cause of death worldwide. Isotretinoin, used for acne treatment, has been found to potentially cause hepatotoxicity. This study investigated the mechanism of isotretinoin-induced hepatotoxicity and the protective role of taurine. The results showed that oral administration of isotretinoin caused hepatotoxicity in rats, as evidenced by increased levels of ALT, AST, and MDA, and decreased GSH in liver tissue. However, taurine administration significantly prevented this hepatotoxicity.

Several LAB strains showed antimicrobial activity through the action of organic acids or bacteriocin. Bacteriocin strain R-55 exhibited the strongest inhibitory effect against S. aureus.

Summary: Solid tumors are difficult to surgically remove and often do not respond to radiation and chemotherapy. This study fabricated ginsenoside Rg3 nanoparticles and evaluated their antitumor effect in mice. The results showed that Rg3-NPs were more effective than regular Rg3 in reducing tumor weight and size, and the effect was dose-dependent. The fabrication of Rg3-NPs enhanced the protective effect against tumor development.

The results suggest that co-administration of TiO2-NPs plus HBEON improves all tested parameters and liver histology, with HBEON being more effective. Summary: This study aimed to develop biological compounds using linoleic acid extracted from melon seed oil, and to treat fried oils using melon seed cake ash. Eight active compounds were developed and their structures were determined. These compounds showed antibacterial activity. Melon seed oil was rich in linoleic acid (61.4%) and other fatty acids. Linoleic acid had high refractive index, iodine value, saponification, while having low peroxide value, polymer content, polar contents, and moisture content. Melon seed ash contained various metals and improved the physicochemical properties of fried oils. Linoleic acid was used to develop 9 compounds with antimicrobial activity, and melon seed ash improved the chemical characteristics of used cotton and sunflower oils.

Summary: This study aimed to synthesize whey protein nanoparticles (WPNPs) for the coating of zinc citrate (Zn CITR) and investigate their protective role against CCl4-induced kidney damage and inflammatory gene expression disorder in rats. The results showed that WPNPs and Zn CITR-WPNPs had a protective effect against these complications, with Zn CITR-WPNPs (LD) being the most effective.

Summary: This study aimed to assess maternal dietary intake patterns, anthropometric measures, and biochemical markers in women with gestational diabetes mellitus and pregnancy-specific urinary incontinence. The results showed that pregnant women in the gestational diabetes mellitus pregnancy-specific urinary incontinence group had higher body mass index, arm circumference, and triceps skinfold than the other groups, indicating an obesogenic maternal environment. Significant differences in dietary food intake were also observed. The study emphasizes the need for a comprehensive strategy for pregnant women with gestational diabetes mellitus and pregnancy-specific urinary incontinence to address obesity and micronutrient deficiencies.

Summary: This study investigates the association between malnutrition and 6-month outcomes in acute ischemic stroke patients with or without intravenous thrombolysis. The results show a significant association between malnutrition and poor functional outcome.

Summary: This study investigated the frequency of breakfast consumption and its associations with the consumption of food at different degrees of industrial processing and with overweight indicators in Brazilian adolescents. The results showed that 20% of adolescents skipped breakfast and 46% of their caloric intake came from ultra-processed foods. Skipping breakfast was associated with increased consumption of ultra-processed foods, higher BMI-for-age, and higher body fat percentage.
