Summary: This study found that maternal exposure to PS-MPs can result in the transgenerational neurotoxicity in C. elegans, with oxidative stress playing a key role in this process. Furthermore, the upregulation of oxidative stress-related genes across generations may be involved in regulating neurotoxicity in C. elegans.

Summary: In this study, the toxicity of the herbicide atrazine and its main metabolites, deethylatrazine (DEA) and deisopropylatrazine (DIA), was compared using the in vivo model Caenorhabditis elegans. The results showed that DEA and DIA had lower toxicity on locomotion and reproduction compared to atrazine. Additionally, DEA and DIA induced less transgenerational toxicity on locomotion than atrazine and caused less oxidative stress and alteration in gene expression.

Summary: This study evaluated the neurotoxicity and chronic toxicology of Saxitoxin (STX) on Caenorhabditis elegans. It found that STX does not cause lethal effects on the worms but does induce substantial oxidative stress, with a dose-responsive relationship. The lifespan, productivity, and body size of the worms were all influenced by STX exposure.

Summary: This study found that the physicochemical properties of biofilm-developed PS (B-PS) incubated in wastewater were altered compared with virgin PS (V-PS), and bacterial adherence to the B-PS surface was impacted. Exposure to B-PS at environmentally relevant concentrations accelerated the aging process more severely than exposure to V-PS, affecting the lifespan and lipofuscin accumulation of Caenorhabditis elegans. The study provides new insights into the potential risks associated with microbial colonization of microplastics.

Summary: Oxidative stress is closely related to aging. LFP-05S, an acidic heteropolysaccharide extracted from Lycii fructus, shows potential in alleviating oxidative stress and delaying senescence. LFP-05S consists of a long homogalacturonan backbone with alternating sequences of intra-rhamnogalacturonans-I domains and branched arabinogalactan and arabinan. When orally supplied, LFP-05S can protect Caenorhabditis elegans from oxidative stress caused by paraquat and extend its lifespan.

Summary: Due to the increase in life expectancy worldwide, age-related disorders such as neurodegenerative diseases have become more prevalent. Conventional treatments only alleviate symptoms, but fail to address the underlying neuronal proteotoxicity. Imidazole rings are being explored as potential scaffolds for developing new bioactive molecules. This study investigates the anti-proteotoxic effects of imidazolium salts using C. elegans, and shows that 1-Mesityl-3-(3-sulfonatopropyl) imidazolium improves oxidative stress resistance and ameliorates protein aggregation in neurodegenerative diseases.

Summary: The transcription factor SKN-1/NRF2 can sense and respond to changes in metabolic state. Knockdown of the amidohydrolase T12A2.1/amdh-1 activates a unique subset of SKN-1 regulated genes, independent of P38-MAPK signaling components. Histidine catabolism genes are required for this activation, possibly through accumulation of a specific catabolite. Activating SKN-1 results in increased oxidative stress resistance but decreased survival to heat stress.

Summary: This study investigated the interactions between trehalose/chitooligosaccharide (COS) and myofibrillar protein (MP), and their effects on the quality of frozen meat. The results showed that trehalose and COS enhanced the content of hydrogen bonds in MP and exposed its hydrophobic residues. Both trehalose and COS significantly reduced thawing loss of frozen meat, with trehalose performing better in terms of smell, texture, and overall acceptance. These findings suggest that the interaction between trehalose/COS and MP can provide technical guidance for quality control of frozen meat.

Summary: The aim of this study was to isolate and identify antioxidative peptide from goose liver hydrolysate for ameliorating alcohol-induced oxidative stress damage in HHL-5 hepatocytes. The target antioxidative peptide, Leu-Pro-Leu-Pro-Phe-Pro (LPLPFP), derived from NADH-ubiquinone oxidoreductase chain 1 in goose liver, was found to have satisfactory stability and high hepatic protective activity. It prevented oxidative stress damage by inhibiting reactive oxide species (ROS) production through upregulating gene expression in the Ahr-NQO1 signal pathway.

Summary: This study aimed to isolate a oligopeptide with anti-inflammatory activity from goose blood, which can ameliorate LPS-mediated inflammation response and oxidative stress. The results showed that the oligopeptide had satisfactory stability and could downregulate the TLR4/NF-kB/iNOS pathway to protect against inflammation. Additionally, the oligopeptide activated the antioxidant defense system to improve oxidative stress damage in the inflammatory state.
