Summary: In this study, a novel reaction strategy was developed to achieve the formation of multiple C-C bonds on a benzene ring through tandem reactions. The method exhibited high chemical selectivity and functional diversity, and could be applied for the synthesis of 1,2,3,5-tetrasubstituted benzenes.

Summary: This article reports an efficient organocatalytic formal N-H insertion reaction of arylamines with alpha-keto sulfoxonium ylides bearing two aryl groups, resulting in a broad range of alpha-tertiary aminoketones with good to excellent yields and enantioselectivities (up to 90% yield and 94% ee). The usefulness of this methodology is further demonstrated by the facile synthesis of enantioenriched 2-amino-1,2-diarylethanol bearing two different aryl groups, which represents an important building block with limited access.

Summary: This study demonstrates a new route for the production of potassium sorbate from triacetic acid lactone. By hydrogenating TAL, dehydrating HMP, and conducting ring-opening hydrolysis of PSA, high-purity potassium sorbate can be obtained. The study shows that the highest yield occurs at low temperatures, and the experimental results agree with the reaction kinetics model. The synthesized potassium sorbate exhibits similar antimicrobial activities as commercial products.

Summary: The photoactivation of electron donor-acceptor complexes is a sustainable, selective, and versatile strategy for generating radical species. This study introduces triarylsulfonium salts as acceptors in photoactive electron donor-acceptor complexes, enabling a broader application in aryl radical formation. The regioselective installation of the sulfonium salt label in native aromatic compounds by C-H sulfenylation allows for the development of metal-free protocols for the alkylation and cyanation of arenes.

Summary: Visible-light-driven photocatalytic reductive azaarylation is widely used for the construction of imine-containing azaarene derivatives. Although efficient methods have been established, enantioselective reactions remain a challenge. This study demonstrates the feasibility of chiral hydrogen-bonding/photosensitizer catalysis for achieving enantioselective reductive azaarylation, leading to valuable enantioenriched azaarene variants.

Summary: By combining electrocatalysis and nickel catalysis, a unified strategy has been applied to successfully achieve the decarboxylative cross-coupling of four types of alpha-oxocarboxylic acids and their derivatives with aryl trimethylammonium salts under mild conditions. Our strategy provides a practical way for preparing aryl ketones, amides, esters, or aldehydes.

Summary: This work describes the acid-promoted cyclization of triaryldivinyl ketones containing a thiophene moiety in the alpha-position. Two cyclization pathways are accessible, one being a 4 pi-Nazarov cyclization, and the other being a proposed 6 pi electrocyclic mechanism. The proportion of products from these pathways depends on reaction conditions and steric bulk in the substrate. Experimental and computational evidence suggests that using HCl in dioxane favors the 4 pi-conrotatory electrocyclization, while using GaCl3 in methylene chloride shifts the chemoselectivity towards a putative 6 pi-disrotatory electrocyclization. DFT calculations indicate that a complex interplay between kinetic and thermodynamic factors is involved in the chemodivergent behavior.

Summary: An atroposelective synthesis method for N-aryl 1,2,4-triazoles was developed. By utilizing a chiral phosphoric acid catalyst, a cyclodehydration reaction achieved asymmetric induction, resulting in atropisomeric N-aryl 1,2,4-triazoles with up to 91:9 enantiomeric ratio. Further crystallization of the isolated heterocycle enhanced the atropisomeric ratio of several analogs to 99:1 or higher. Additionally, a divergent and substrate-dependent reaction pathway leading to a different heterocyclic product was revealed.
