Summary: The study found that both short-term and long-term supplementation of L. edodes beta-glucan prevented gut microbial composition shifts induced by a high-fat diet. Long-term supplementation also prevented cognitive impairments induced by the high-fat diet, improved synaptic ultrastructure, reduced neuroinflammation, and ameliorated brain-derived neurotrophic factor deficits in the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus. Additionally, beta-glucan supplementation increased mucosal thickness, upregulated tight junction protein expression, decreased plasma LPS levels, and inhibited proinflammatory macrophage accumulation in the colon of high-fat diet-fed mice.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of lithium on freezing behavior and pain perception in a fear-conditioning model in rats. The results showed that lithium had no effect on freezing behavior and pain subthreshold in all rats. Extinction training decreased freezing behavior, with more efficacy in females. Gender differences were also observed in the effects of extinction training.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the impact of E. tapos in yogurt on the cognitive function of maternally obese rats under a high-fat diet. The results showed that the 50 and 500 mg/kg E. tapos supplemented groups had similar metabolic profile and memory index compared to the control group. Therefore, the conclusion of this study is that the newly formulated E. tapos in yogurt can act as an anti-obesity agent, alleviate anxiety, and enhance hippocampal-dependent memory.

Summary: In this study, a proteomic analysis of brain proteins in hyperlipidemic mice was conducted. The results showed significant changes in the expression of proteins related to lipid metabolism, neurological disorders, synaptic events, and nervous system development. Additionally, different expression patterns were observed in the two hemispheres of the brain, suggesting an asymmetric effect of hyperlipidemia on brain proteins.

It also evaluates the translational relevance of fear conditioning paradigms and addresses the lack of research on fear memory enhancement over time post mTBI. Additionally, potential neurobiological substrates implicated in altered fear memory post mTBI are discussed.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of intermittent fasting on the mental and physical fatigue of obese rats. The results showed that intermittent fasting led to slower weight gain and lower blood glucose levels compared to the ad libitum group. The type of diet also affected ketone levels. However, there was no significant difference in mental or physical fatigue between intermittent fasting and ad libitum feeding.

Summary: This study characterized the transcription profile of microglia in a fear memory conditional mouse model, and found that synapse-related genes were induced while immune-related genes were reduced after fear memory consolidation. The expression of synapse-related genes reversed after fear memory extinction, but immune-related genes remained unchanged. The expression of neurotransmitter release regulators in hippocampal microglia was also found to be correlated with fear memory formation and extinction.
