Summary: This study proposes a rapid and robust machine-learning model for predicting the volumetric error of a five-axis machine tool. Several machine learning models are compared to find the best model for the problem at hand. The results show that the models proposed in this paper are more effective than those in the literature. The SVR Regression model has proven to be the best, with an RMSE of 0.03246 mm.

Summary: This study focuses on the contouring control problem of a five-axis machine tool. With the presence of rotation axes, two coordinate systems are involved, namely the workpiece coordinate system and the machine coordinate system. The challenge lies in designing a controller in the machine coordinate system that meets the requirements in the workpiece coordinate system. Another challenge is to minimize both the position contour error and tool orientation error. The method of equivalent errors is adopted for the design of the contouring controller, transforming the desired path and tool orientation in the workpiece coordinate system into a five-dimensional hyper-curve in the machine coordinate system. Numerical and experimental results validate the effectiveness of the proposed contouring control method.

Summary: This paper proposes a servo matching method to reduce contour errors in the five-axis hybrid machine tool. By modeling and simplifying the servo system, the mechanism for single-axis tracking error is revealed and a servo response index is proposed. The mechanism of the tool contour error is revealed through kinematics analysis. Finally, a servo detection trajectory and a servo matching method are proposed. Experimental results demonstrate the correctness of the error mechanism and the effectiveness of servo matching in reducing contour errors.

Summary: A new approach of reverse identification for dynamic and static motion error of five-axis machine tools is proposed through specimen cutting and feature decomposition. An error mapping is established between workpiece features and corresponding errors, and a feature specimen is designed accordingly. By measuring the specimen with on-machine measurement and CMM, 15 static motion errors and dynamics-induced errors can be identified and separated. The error estimates are verified by direct measurement via interferometer, autocollimator, and ballbar tests. These errors are compensated using a volumetric error model, effectively increasing the accuracy of the specimen after compensation, confirming the feasibility and accuracy of this method.

Summary: This article presents advanced technologies for the calibration of machine tools. It categorizes kinematic errors into intra-axis errors, inter-axis errors, and volumetric errors. It addresses the measurement methods, modeling theories, and compensation strategies for machine tool errors as the major technological elements of machine tool calibration. The criteria for selecting a combination of technological elements for machine tool calibration are provided based on accuracy, complexity, and cost. Recent applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning in machine tool calibration are introduced and future trends in machine tool calibration are discussed.

A kinematic model is established to compute the deformation of the crossbeam, and algorithms for position calibration and point cloud registration are proposed. Through a continuous warm-up experiment, the thermal errors of the Y-axes are calculated, and the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified.
