Have you never submitted a journal to ACS? Once the submission is completed in the ACS submission system, it will show "Under review" on the main page. This doesn't mean it has been sent for review yet. Firstly, the manuscript will go to the editor-in-chief, who will then assign associate editors to review the manuscript. At that time, you will receive a message from the assigned associate editor via email. If you want to know the status of your manuscript, you need to click on the "Author Center" in the upper right corner to check. Only when it shows "peer review" does it mean it has been sent for review.

I specifically came here to register and talk about this article edited by Bing Joe Hwang. It has been under review for a month. The day before yesterday, I received the review comments. All three reviewers said my research is garbage, without a single positive comment. It made me laugh because when I submitted to EA (presumably a different journal), at least three reviewers affirmed my work. Only one reviewer rejected it, citing unclear explanations of my mechanism. Although there were many suggestions given, each one seemed absurd and it appeared that they did not want research in this field and forcefully provided rejection opinions. In the future, I will definitely recommend rejecting this editor and accepting manuscripts for this journal.

Rejected by several magazines, finally turned to this one.
On January 18th, submitted the manuscript and assigned an editor.
On February 18th, received the first round of feedback, which were minor suggestions. The editor made minor revisions and due to the pandemic, the revised manuscript was sent back on March 1st. Surprisingly, it was sent for a second round of review.
On March 18th, received the second round of feedback, where the editor only requested changes in formatting. It was ready for acceptance (possibly delayed by the reviewer, causing a delay of over half a month).
On March 21st, officially accepted.
On March 29th, proofread and it was published online the same evening.

It took a total of 4 months from start to finish. After submitting the manuscript, it took 1 and a half months to receive major revisions, including two major revisions and one minor revision. After spending 1 month on revisions, it took another month for the manuscript to be reviewed again, this time for minor revisions. After 20 days of making the necessary changes, the manuscript was resubmitted. Following a half-month review process, the manuscript was accepted pending final approval.
