How do I know if it has been submitted for review? JACS

changshuyike 2022-05-20

Who knows where I can see the review process?

下贤 2022-05-12

Got a paper accepted, the difficulty is much greater than expected. The first round of review took a long time, over two months, with five reviewers who have high expectations for originality in the article. After all, with so many specialized reviewers, it is difficult to have something that impresses all of them and avoids rejection without something eye-catching.

Hahaha, even the assigned assistant editors have their own connections. Otherwise, it would be embarrassing if someone got hold of their fund notebook.

After submission, the My Authoring Activity section in the submission system shows "Status: Under Review," but in the ACS Publishing Center, it shows "Associate Editor Assigned." Could you please clarify if it is under review?

2022.03.05 submitted
2022.03.09 under review
2022.04.05 received minor revisions
2022.04.12 received feedback after one week, accepted on April 13th.
I worked on material-related research. Previously, I had submitted to Nature Chemistry but was rejected by the editor. Later, my advisor suggested submitting to Angew, but it was also rejected after review. Afterwards, based on the review comments from Angew and in collaboration with a research group in the United States (since I couldn't address some of the suggestions myself), I completed the work. Feeling unsatisfied, I submitted to JACS and it was accepted in just over a month. It's a great pleasure to have my work recognized by JACS as a unique 27th birthday gift~~~ Let me share my thoughts and experiences. I feel that the editors at JACS have a better eye for quality compared to Angew, possibly because JACS editors are frontline scientists, while Angew has professional editors who may overlook certain aspects. Hmph! However, it is true that having authors affiliated with American institutions in JACS articles can indeed increase acceptance rates! This is a bit different from Angew, as professional editors don't need to cultivate their own network. Wishing everyone success in getting their articles accepted, hahaha.

It has been 8 days since submission, and it has been 6 days in the hands of the associate editor. But they still haven't decided whether to send it for review or not. I heard it was supposed to be quick.

Hello, how long does it usually take for your review?

美金博士 2022-02-23

It's better to give it some time, no need to worry. Good luck!

I have been waiting for 25 days and the review has been pending for 11 days. I beg you, please do not reject me. I am willing to make any necessary changes!

美金博士 2022-02-23

The reviewers are not fixed, probably 2-4, my two reviewers.

My minor repair, a major repair, it's been 20 days since the second review and still no news.

I have been rejected by major journals before, so I submitted to JACS with a try-it-out attitude.

Submitted on November 4, 2021, it took about a week for it to be sent for review. At the publishing center, the boss said they didn't receive the email for review.

Received the first round of reviews on December 13, 2021. There were four reviewers, three of them had a positive attitude. One of the reviewers had a small question about our article and suggested rejection. The editor, Nice, gave us an opportunity for major revisions, probably because there were more positive opinions and the points for rejection were not critical.

Submitted the revised manuscript on December 30, 2021.

Received the second round of reviews on January 18, 2022. The previously rejected reviewer agreed to publish, and one of the previously positive reviewers had a small issue that needed to be modified. It was revised and sent back the next day.

Accepted on January 21, 2022.

How long did you wait after the Da Xiu Xiu meeting?

Johndodo 2022-01-22

The first time I submitted in communication format, it was directly rejected by editor Claudia Turro. It was suggested to submit to AMI instead. When I submitted to Angew, it was rejected again and even suggested to submit to a third-tier journal (JACS's editors do require more rigor compared to Angew). When I submitted to Nature Communications, it was rejected after four days. I started doubting my work. After a period of self-doubt, struggle, and hesitation, I decided to completely revise the article and add supplementary data. I transformed the article into an article format, beautifully packaged the title and introduction, and resubmitted to JACS. It ended up back in Turro's hands, and I felt anxious for a week. Finally, after a month, the comments came back, and surprisingly, there were four reviewers with over thirty comments. Three were minor revisions, showing recognition for the work, and one was a major revision, requiring reconsideration. After enduring hardships, it was finally accepted (I have to say, for journals of this caliber like JACS, innovation alone is not enough, the article also needs to be written in an exciting manner).

How many reviewers are there typically for JACS?

How long did it take for your review in the end? Was it good news in the end?

Magerate 2022-01-12

A larger number of days indicates a good time, which editor are you? Good luck!~~~

Professor Yang Peidong, and you?

潘博士 2021-12-21

Which editor is it?

潘博士 2021-12-21

It has been half a month since Jacs made the submission, and it has been reviewed for 10 days. I felt quite nervous and uneasy when I submitted it for the first time.

Family, it has been 24 days since the distribution of the deputy editor position, and we are still waiting. I don't know how much longer it will take. Hoping for good luck!

August 27, 21 - Paper submission
August 30, 21 - Assigned to JACS Executive Editor Prof. Karen Wooley
September 12, 21 - Paper under review, In Peer Review
October 7, 21 - Received feedback from three reviewers, 2 accepted directly, 1 minor revision required. Editor gave the revision instructions and requested to return the feedback within 14 days. All three reviewers gave a TOP 5% evaluation.
October 20, 21 - Paper revisions submitted
October 24, 21 - Second round of revisions, preliminary acceptance pending modifications to formatting and other issues
October 26, 21 - Second round of revisions
October 30, 21 - Paper accepted. Email begins with "Thank you for publishing this innovative work in JACS!"
The lesson learned is that the novelty of the work must be high, which is very important. If JACS receives a rejection or generally negative evaluations from any reviewer, they will directly reject the paper. Recently, I visited Prof. Karen Wooley's paper on peptide batteries published in Nature. I truly believe that to publish in a journal like JACS, one must have innovative and meaningful work. Let's all work hard and hope to publish in this journal again in the future, as it is the most authoritative and influential journal in the field of chemistry.
