Nowadays, data mining is really a peculiar field. Many papers even get the basic methodology wrong and still manage to get published. Of course, it's not just TKDE (IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering), many top conferences and journals also have this issue. It's really unbelievable and makes you wonder what they were thinking. They seem to believe that without sharing the code and data, it cannot be verified. They write their flawed understanding of the basic methodology in their papers, and these flaws will forever tarnish their work.

Whether to increase the number of reviewers depends on the situation, and it is not necessarily needed. In my case, when I submitted my work for review, I initially found four reviewers. However, only three of them provided feedback during the first review. After making the necessary revisions and resubmitting, the feedback from the fourth reviewer also came in. Therefore, the second review included feedback from all four reviewers.

The first review took 13 months, and in the end, it was still rejected. During the process, I followed up three times. The first two times, they said they had received two opinions and were waiting for the third one. However, the final opinions included two rejections, indicating that one of the previous opinions was also a rejection. I don't understand why the editor didn't directly send a rejection email. I waited for so long, and the third reviewer was unbelievable. It shouldn't take so long to review an article. It's irresponsible. Received review comments four months after submission, one major revision, one minor revision, and one rejection. The editor requested extensive revisions. After receiving the review comments, made careful modifications and wrote a ten-page response letter. The original manuscript, which was 14 pages long, expanded to 17 pages. In the second round of revisions, one reviewer raised two simple questions, while the other two reviewers had no comments. Finally, the editor accepted the paper with no further changes. Originally, I thought the reviewer who gave the rejection would raise many questions in the second round, prolonging the process. Overall, as long as there is a major revision, there is an opportunity, but it is important to show sincerity and determination to the reviewers.

First round of revisions with major revisions and two minor revisions in early September 2020. All three reviewers were junior colleagues who provided a lot of professional comments. The comments were relevant and required high theoretical innovation and excellent algorithm performance.
Sent back at the end of December 2020 with a 16-page reply letter, including a large amount of additional experiments and theoretical innovation analysis.
Received acceptance notification on February 10, 2021.
As the second small project during my PhD, I am quite happy to have it published in TKDE. I have previously published a paper in TNNLS, but compared to TKDE, the difficulty of working on data mining algorithms is lower.

I got hired, excited! Submitted to Pattern Recognition and Information Sciences, both got rejected. Tried again with TKDE, got major revisions, minor revisions, and finally accepted. Doing research requires being bold to try and not afraid of failure. Scientific research should focus on the results themselves. Major achievements do not necessarily need to be published in top journals, and top journals do not necessarily represent groundbreaking achievements. The so-called top journals are just products of a system established by major publishing houses dominating global scholars. It's time to put an end to the discourse of top journals!
