Summary: The study investigated the risk, predisposing factors and prognosis of pancreatitis after ERCP in elderly patients, finding that female gender, SOD, and JPD were more prevalent in elderly patients aged 65 years and older with post ERCP pancreatitis (PEP), and female gender was the most important risk factor for PEP in the elderly.

Summary: In this study, socio-demographic risk factors for complications following pediatric gastrointestinal surgery were identified. Male sex, young age, African American and Native American race, and treatment in a rural hospital were associated with a higher risk of postoperative complications. The study also found that patients with complications have a longer length of stay and higher hospitalization costs compared to those without complications.

Summary: This multicenter cohort study evaluated the success and survival of endodontically treated teeth with post restorations (ETT+Ps) in a private practice setting. High success and survival rates were observed, with recementation of old crowns after placing new posts identified as a significant predictor for increased failure rate.

Summary: This study analyzed the risk factors for calcium-phosphate disorders following thyroidectomy, and found that the extent of thyroid surgery and surgeon experience were the most significant factors for hypoparathyroidism. Hypocalcemia was more common than hypoparathyroidism, and it was also associated with preoperative vitamin D deficiency.

Summary: The study found that in Australia, widespread uptake of the quadrivalent HPV vaccine has significantly reduced the prevalence of quadrivalent vaccine-targeted HPV genotypes in women aged 18-35. Vaccination has a big impact on HPV infection, but unvaccinated women have higher prevalence of other HPV types, influenced by factors such as age and number of sexual partners.

Summary: Limited published data exist on the incidence and risk factors for infection after minor dermatologic procedures. A retrospective case-control study found that the infection rate after procedures using buffered lidocaine prepared in office was low. Procedures on the arm and leg showed a higher risk of infection compared to those on the head/neck.

Summary: Risk factors for phonation disorders after thyroidectomy are influenced by various factors, with retrosternal goiter and volume above 100mL being the most important risk factors. Other factors such as having thyroid cancer, being a male over 65 years old with obesity, undergoing secondary operations, and only having visual RLN identification also increase the risk of phonation disorders.

Summary: The study found that acquired idiopathic stiffness (AIS) and manipulation under anesthesia (MUA) have a certain incidence among patients undergoing total knee arthroplasties (TKA). MUA can improve range of motion, but patients treated with MUA have lower range of motion compared to those without AIS.

Summary: This study revealed that postoperative visual acuity after vitrectomy for PDR was correlated with factors such as the presence of rubeosis iridis, fibrovascular membrane, vitreous hemorrhage, and reoperation. Early treatment and avoiding complications were associated with better postoperative visual acuity.

Summary: There is limited literature on the outcomes of revision total hip arthroplasty (rTHA) in young patients. This study examined the survival rate and risk factors for re-revision in patients aged <= 55 years. Approximately 1 in 5 patients required re-revision THA at 5 years, with instability being the most common reason. Patients undergoing head/liner exchanges and isolated femoral component revisions were found to have the highest risk.

Summary: This study evaluated the frequency and factors contributing to strictures in patients undergoing esophagectomy with thoracic anastomosis. The occurrence of anastomotic leak and circular staple size were identified as independent predictors of stricture occurrence. Patients with anastomotic leaks were more likely to develop refractory strictures.
