Summary: This study developed a valid and reliable instrument for assessing postpartum quality of life called the Maternal Postpartum Quality of Life Instrument (MPQOL-I). Through exploratory factor analysis, five factors were extracted from the scale, including received support, sexual relations, bonding with newborn, breastfeeding and newborn care, and the transition period. The confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the good fit of the scale and high internal consistency. The MPQOL-I can be used for early detection of impaired postpartum quality of life.

Summary: Hope plays a crucial role in protecting childhood cancer patients from psychological distress. This study examined the psychometric properties of the Chinese version of the Herth Hope Index (HHI) for assessing hope among Chinese childhood cancer patients. The results showed that the Chinese version of the HHI is a reliable and valid instrument, with good content validity, convergent validity, discriminant validity, and internal consistency. The findings provide evidence for providing evidence-based interventions to enhance hope in this population.

Summary: Brazil is currently facing a rapid aging population, which has significant implications for individuals, families, and society as a whole. However, there is a lack of assessment tools for evaluating lifestyles, hindering research development. Therefore, this study aimed to develop and evaluate a new instrument for assessing the lifestyles of older adults. After several phases of research, a 19-item Older Adult Lifestyle Scale (OALS) was developed and showed good psychometric qualities for Brazilian older adults aged 60 and above.

Summary: A novel cystine-knot peptide-based PET radiopharmaceutical, F-18-FP-R(0)1-MG-F2 (knottin), was developed to selectively bind to human integrin alpha(v)beta(6) overexpressed in pancreatic cancer. The study evaluated the safety, biodistribution, dosimetry, and lesion uptake of F-18-FP-R(0)1-MG-F2 in pancreatic cancer patients, demonstrating its ability to detect primary tumors and distant metastases with an effective dose comparable to other diagnostic agents. Larger studies are needed to further define the role of this approach.

Summary: Pain is common and significantly reduces quality of life in patients with chronic pancreatitis. This study aimed to classify the pain types in these patients, finding that patients with multiple pain types have worse health and quality of life scores. Further research is needed to identify biomarkers associated with specific pain types and predict responses to interventions.

Summary: Gallbladder polyps are common incidental findings, with the majority of polyps smaller than 10 mm being benign cholesterol polyps without inherent malignancy risk. Recent studies have questioned the rationale for frequent and prolonged follow-up of small gallbladder polyps, as they do not appear to increase the overall risk of gallbladder cancer. In 2021, the Society of Radiologists in Ultrasound convened a consensus conference to provide recommendations for the management of incidentally detected gallbladder polyps.

Summary: This study analyzed baseline data of 488 patients with chronic pancreatitis (CP) and 254 control subjects, and found that pain was significantly associated with impairments in physical and mental health. CP patients with severe pain had more decrements in each PROMIS domain and a higher prevalence of clinically significant depression, anxiety, sleep disturbance, and physical disability. Similar results were noted for constant pain.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the independent risk factors for diabetes in patients with chronic pancreatitis. The results showed that features associated with the severity of pancreatitis and risk factors for type 2 diabetes were both associated with diabetes in patients with chronic pancreatitis. This study lays the groundwork for the future development of models integrating clinical and nonclinical data to identify patients with chronic pancreatitis at risk for diabetes and identifies modifiable risk factors (obesity, smoking) on which to focus for diabetes prevention.

Summary: Subepithelial lesions (SEL) of the GI tract can be benign or potentially malignant and can occur anywhere along the GI tract. This clinical guideline suggests endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) with tissue acquisition for diagnosis of solid nonlipomatous SEL and EUS fine-needle biopsy or aspiration for sampling solid SEL. The guideline also recommends resection of gastric GIST >2 cm and all nongastric GIST due to their malignant potential.
