Summary: This study analyzed and conducted migration tests on food contact articles contaminated with unapproved brominated flame retardants purchased in the US market. The results showed varying levels of migration of the BFRs in food simulants and food. Using UHPLC-MS/MS, the phenolic BFRs were accurately analyzed, with higher migration concentrations observed in 50% ethanol food simulant compared to more aqueous simulants and food.

Summary: This study investigated the stability of 24 primary aromatic amines (PAAs) under different storage conditions and found that eleven carcinogenic PAAs showed low stability under at least one condition. PAAs were found to be the least stable in 3% (m/V) acetic acid, which poses a serious problem for PAA migration testing. A 3 mmolL(-1) HCl solution with similar pH was suggested as an alternative food simulant as PAAs showed better stability in this medium. Most PAAs were found to be stable in ethanol-containing food simulants. Decreased temperature improved PAA stability, while shortened storage time improved PAA recovery.

Summary: This study investigated the migration of photoinitiators, phthalates, and plasticizers from paper and cardboard materials into food and food simulants. The results showed that temperature had minimal effects on migration, while Tenax was suitable for simulating migration to rice and cereals, and 95% EtOH was more appropriate for simulating migration to infant milk powder.

Summary: This study describes the use of modified halloysite nanotubes as a novel solid material for the efficient solid phase extraction of toxic pyrrolizidine alkaloids. The optimized method showed high extraction efficiencies and overall recoveries for a mixture of pyrrolizidine alkaloids using UHPLC-MS/MS analysis. The novel solid phase material exhibited high selectivity and competitiveness compared to a commercial procedure.

Summary: Accurate and reproducible quantification of endogenous lipids is crucial for large-scale lipidomic analyses. Many lipids in liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-mass spectrometry form various adducts with buffer components, and the mechanisms and conditions affecting adduct formation are poorly understood. Variations in adduct ratios can lead to significant inaccuracies during quantification, and the use of multiple adduct ions improves accuracy compared to using a single adduct ion.

Summary: The study investigated the migration of styrene monomers from polystyrene food contact materials into food simulants, finding that fat content and high temperatures significantly increased the level of styrene migration. The use of ANOVA statistical analysis and t-test analysis revealed key factors influencing the migration process.

Summary: In this study, an analytical method was developed and validated to evaluate the elution of heavy metals from an active packaging material's oxygen absorber to a food simulant. The method showed excellent linearity, accuracy, and precision, and complied with CODEX standards. This study established a robust analytical approach for ensuring safety in the food industry.

Summary: Protein-based therapeutics like mAbs play a crucial role in modern medicine, with glycosylation being a key quality attribute affecting the safety and efficacy of biotherapeutics. An LC-MS/MS-based glycoproteomics approach was used to characterize Fc glycans of two NISTmAb samples, revealing differences in galactosylation levels between the modified and unmodified NISTmAb. Additionally, high abundance glycan structures were identified along with relatively low levels of certain glycans and unglycosylated peptides.

Summary: Per-and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS) can migrate from food contact materials (FCMs) into food, leading to human dietary exposure. It is important to identify and minimize the potential exposure pathways of these chemicals in order to mitigate health risks. However, current risk assessment procedures often only consider the final concentration of PFAS in food, without distinguishing the contribution of migration.
