Summary: In this study, a recombinant baculovirus expressing VP35-VP4 proteins from GCRV was generated and used to vaccinate grass carp through oral administration. The results showed that the vaccine induced both non-specific and specific immune responses, providing protection against GCRV infection with a relative percent survival rate of 56%. This study suggests that the silkworm pupae powder could be used as an effective oral vaccine for grass carp.

Summary: By comparing the expression variation of 13 immune factors in different tissues, it was found that the high gene expression in the coagulation complement and cytokine interaction pathways may be the main reason for the strong resistance of barbel chub to GCRV. However, high gene expression was not a factor affecting GCRV resistance between grass carp populations.

Summary: The study suggests that adiponectin plays critical roles in regulating glucose metabolism in fish. It promotes glycolysis, gluconeogenesis, and glycogen synthesis, increases glycogen content in the hepatopancreas, and reduces basal blood glucose level. Adiponectin A and adiponectin B have opposite regulatory effects on glucose uptake.

Summary: This study identified and analyzed the functional role of ATG4C, a protein involved in autophagy, in grass carp. ATG4C was found to be widely distributed in grass carp tissues, with high expression in the intestine. It showed a strong response in immune tissues after infection with grass carp reovirus (GCRV), indicating its involvement in the immune response. Additionally, the study confirmed the induction of autophagy and apoptosis by GCRV invasion, and revealed that ATG4C positively regulated autophagy while restricting apoptosis, leading to inhibition of GCRV replication.

Summary: This study developed a prophylactic grass carp reovirus (GCRV) vaccine using virus-like particle (VLP) assembly technology, and the highly immunogenic candidates in the vaccine were VP4, VP56, and VP35. Expression of VP4, VP56, and VP35 in both Escherichia coli and Pichia pastoris systems resulted in successful assembly of uniform, stable, and non-toxic VP4/VP56/VP35 VLPs. Vaccination with P. pastoris VLPs significantly improved survival rate, IgM levels, tissue viral load, and antioxidant immune-related indicators in grass carp.

Summary: The interaction of C5a and C5aR in grass carp infected with grass carp reovirus promotes the activation of p38 and ERK proteins, leading to increased expression of IL-6 and TNF-alpha and induction of an inflammatory response. These findings provide a theoretical basis for regulating the interaction of C5a and C5aR to alleviate grass carp hemorrhagic diseases.

Summary: This study investigated the latent infection of GCRV-II in asymptomatic grass carp with GCRV infection or exposure history. It was found that GCRV-II was detectable only in the brain of grass carp during latent infection, unlike the multi-tissue distribution observed in natural infection. Additionally, GCRV-II distribution in grass carp was notably affected by ambient temperature. This study provides insights into the mechanisms of GCRV-II latent infection and reactivation, contributing to the prevention and control of GCRV pandemics.

Summary: This study focused on the involvement of Igf3 in fish reproduction, particularly in grass carp, by isolating the gene and assessing its functions through various experiments. Igf3 was found to regulate gene expression in multiple tissues, affecting growth-related genes and glucose metabolism. This research is the first to reveal the mechanism by which Igf3 regulates the expression of growth-related genes in teleosts.

Further investigations revealed that GCRV-II invades grass carp via the nostril-olfactory system-brain axis, and viral replication occurs.

Oral administration of COS directly absorbed through the intestine significantly improves the innate immunity of blunt snout bream, leading to increased survival and reduced tissue damage. Thus, COS offers potential strategies for immunosuppression prevention and control in fish.
