The Stable Rhamnolipid Biosurfactant Production in Genetically Engineered Pseudomonas Strain Reduced Energy Consumption in Biodesulfurization

The energy consumption in the biodesulfurization process was reduced by production of rhamnolipid biosurfactant in engineered biodesulfurization biocatalyst Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 9027. This strain, which previously was genetically engineered for its stable biodesulfurization characteristic, was examined as having the potential to produce a type of glicolipid biosurfactant. Different environmental factors were added to examine the effects on the stability, surface tension reduction, and oil displacement of this biosurfactant. In addition, the study on the biosurfactant production time course revealed that the biosurfactant production was parallel to cell growth. However, maximum biosurfactant production occurred and was established in the stationary growth phase (after 84 h). The results demonstrated that different environmental factors, such as temperature, salinary, and aeration, barely affected the biosurfactant production and stability.

Summary: A new generation of hyperelastic bone implants loaded with superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles were 3D bioprinted and studied for their regenerative effect on large non-healing bone fractures. The incorporation of SPIONs into HB bioink enhanced bacteriostatic properties of bone grafts without cytotoxicity. In vitro culture showed viability and functionality of cells on printed HB scaffolds, while implantation into a rat model demonstrated significant regenerative effect.

Summary: This study provides comprehensive data on the burden of cancer among adolescents and young adults globally. The results show that in 2019, there were 1.19 million incident cancer cases and 396,000 cancer deaths among individuals aged 15-39 years worldwide. Summary: Breast cancer is the second major cause of death among women worldwide, with a high mortality rate. The unique tumor microenvironment created by breast cancer cells allows them to evade immune surveillance, making conventional chemotherapy and immunotherapy ineffective. Overexpressed tumor markers in breast cancer cells can be targeted for detection and therapy, with HER2 being a clinically valid molecular target.

Advanced biological and engineering methods are utilized to enhance and customize tissue engineered scaffolds, while tunable drug delivery mechanisms are incorporated to address clinical challenges. The review covers the mechanisms and recent developments in drug delivery vehicles, loading strategies, and monitoring/release kinetics of embedded drugs in engineered scaffolds, as well as the trend of using stimuli driven biopolymer scaffolds for precise spatiotemporal control of drug release.

Summary: Albumin-based hydrogels, especially the non-immunogenic photocurable version described in the study, demonstrate excellent biocompatibility and anti-inflammatory properties, making them promising materials for biomedical applications. The modifications and cross-linking of methacrylated HSA were found to reduce macrophage adhesion and inflammatory pathways, with potential for use in passivation coatings and other biomedical applications. In vitro and Ex-Ovo assay results confirmed the biocompatibility and slight angiogenesis-modulating effects of the photocurable albumin hydrogels.

Summary: We investigated the charge transport characteristics of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) of short tau peptides using electron tunneling rates and quantum mechanical simulation. Our findings showed that the conformation and phosphorylation of short peptides can significantly affect their electron tunneling current and energy levels.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate whether patients with or without hypersensitivity reactions to ferumoxytol nanoparticles develop specific protein corona profiles. The results suggest that analyzing the biomolecular corona ex vivo may provide predictive information on severe allergic reactions to ferumoxytol nanoparticles, potentially allowing for the diagnosis of patients predisposed to an allergic reaction based on proteomic patterns in the corona.
