Summary: Octocrylene sunscreen is widely present in different environments. This study investigates its adverse effects on terrestrial plants and soil fauna. The results show that octocrylene negatively affects seed germination, root elongation, and cell division in Allium cepa, as well as avoidance behavior and oxidative stress in Eisenia fetida. The presence of octocrylene in soil fertilization and irrigation water may have a negative impact on the survival of species relying on the soil.

Summary: The study found that PFOS has significant cytotoxic and genotoxic effects on Allium cepa root meristem cells. As the concentration increases, cell division decreases and chromosomal aberrations increase. This is the first study to investigate the cyto-genotoxic potential of PFOS in higher plants.

Summary: This study assesses the susceptibility of Allium cepa to trifloxystrobin and finds that it has toxic effects on the plant's physiology, cytogenetics, biochemistry, and anatomy. Trifloxystrobin inhibits the growth of the onion, induces chromosomal abnormalities and micronucleus formation, and negatively impacts cellular structure and biochemical processes. These toxic effects are dose-dependent.

Summary: This study observed significant genotoxicity in off-target bioindicator cells treated with high concentrations of green-synthesized vanillin capped gold nanoparticles, while protein-coated gold nanoparticles of similar concentrations had negligible genotoxic effects. These findings suggest that the toxicological signatures of AuNPs are influenced by their interaction with biological systems.

Summary: The genotoxicity of biogenic silver nanoparticles obtained from three microbial mediators was evaluated using the Allium cepa assay. Results showed that different treatments had different genotoxic effects, and the cytological responses of meristematic cells may be affected by the features of the biogenic nanoparticles.

Summary: This study evaluated the phytotoxicity and genotoxicity of Eprinomectin, a veterinary drug widely used in the agricultural sector. The results showed that Eprinomectin affected root development and germination speed, as well as induced chromosomal aberrations and micronuclei. Therefore, the release of Eprinomectin into the environment should be minimized.

Summary: The study found that cassava wastewater from processing factories in Nigeria contains cyanide compounds, leading to toxic effects on the environment and biological organisms. While chemical degradation can reduce the cyanide content, it still results in chromosomal aberrations and cytotoxic effects in cells.

Summary: This study assessed the effects of visible, infrared, and ultraviolet light on Allium cepa seeds. The results showed that light induction at 460 and 635 nm significantly stimulated root development, while irradiation at 254 nm was cytotoxic, genotoxic, and mutagenic. This study reveals the spectral response of plants and proposes Allium cepa as a potential model for studying the mechanisms of photobiomodulation in plants.

Summary: Pyroligneous acid (PA), a highly oxygenated organic condensate, has been used in agriculture for several years with multiple beneficial effects. This study examined the cytogenetic potential of PA to Allium cepa meristematic root-tips and found that it does not have genotoxic effects. This suggests that PA is unlikely to cause adverse effects on crops, biota, and human health.
