Summary: This study observed the effect of four different mouthwashes on the mechanical properties of different suture materials. The results showed that Mersilk had a decrease in tensile load over time in certain solutions, all sutures had the highest tensile strength in Parodontax, and the lowest in Betadine. Vicryl and PTFE had significant percentage elongation over time. The study concludes that the selection of suture material should be based on the type of surgery and surgeon's preferences.

Summary: Periodontitis is an inflammatory infection caused by bacterial plaque accumulation. Current treatments lack bioactive signals for tissue repair and regeneration. Electrospun nanofibers have shown promising results for periodontal regeneration due to their ability to mimic the natural extracellular matrix. This review provides an overview of the current state of electrospun nanofibrous scaffolds in periodontal regeneration strategies.

Summary: The oral cavity contains different microenvironments that host microbial communities, and the interactions and balances between these communities determine oral health or disease. This study presents an in vitro 3D anatomical gingival tissue model that mimics the human oral environment, providing a new tool to investigate host-pathogen imbalances.

Summary: This systematic review summarizes the role of hPDLCs in mechanosensing and mechanotransduction during orthodontic tooth movement, as well as the effects of tension application on genes, proteins, and metabolites, along with the identification of signaling pathways involved. It provides important insights for future research in this field.

Summary: By comparing protein expression, transcriptome, and salivary metabolome profiles of uninfected and HIV+ individuals, it was found that HIV infection leads to perturbations in polyamine metabolism in the oral mucosa. Further studies using an in vitro human tonsil organoid infection model revealed that HIV infection of T cells enhances polyamine synthesis, which is dependent on the activities of caspase-1, IL-1 beta, and ornithine decarboxylase-1. Blockade of caspase-1 and polyamine synthesis intermediates reversed the dysfunctional T cell phenotype, indicating the direct role of the polyamine pathway in altering T cell functions during HIV-1 infection.

Summary: This article introduces a solution of recycling a prior Hadad-Bassagasteguy (HBF) flap along with a small piece of free autologous mucosa to reconstruct the skull base in secondary transsphenoidal surgery. It is found that using autologous mucosa can reduce cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) complications, especially the morbidity of meningitis, compared to using artificial materials to rebuild the skull base.

Summary: Bone and periodontal tissue are capable of repairing from harm, but replacing or regrowing missing tissues is not always effective, especially as the defect grows larger. With the increase in aging and debilitating disorders, there is a greater demand for orthopedic and periodontal surgical operations. Autogenous bone grafts remain the best solution, but alternative options such as topical administration methods show promise in reducing the need for autogenous bone transplantation.

Summary: This study systematically reviewed the clinical applications of chorion membrane (CM) and amnion/chorion membrane (ACM) in oral tissue regeneration procedures, identifying seven clinical applications in oral and periodontal surgery. CM and ACM were found to be efficient alternatives for periodontal and oral soft tissue regeneration procedures, but further research is needed to demonstrate their role in bone regeneration.

Summary: The study investigated the beneficial effects of a secretome derived from gamma-irradiated PBMCs on tissue survival, angiogenesis, and clinical parameters after flap surgery in a rodent epigastric flap model. Significant reductions in tissue necrosis rate and increased vessel counts were observed with PBMCsec treatment, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic approach in reconstructive surgery. Seroma formation was also decreased after treatment with fibrin sealant with or without the addition of PBMCsec, indicating improved outcomes post-surgery.
