Summary: Permethrin-loaded chitosan nanoparticles were synthesized successfully through nanoprecipitation method. The particle size and permethrin loading efficiency of the synthesized nanoparticles were measured to be 199.7 +/- 6.4 mm and 84.6 +/- 2.20%, respectively. The wood treatment with permethrin-chitosan nanoparticles using vacuum pressure showed improved efficiency compared to the standard condition, with reduced pressure and duration. The treated wood exhibited reduced weight loss and increased protection against subterranean termites.

Summary: The study developed eco-friendly polymeric spheres derived from crosslinking of chitosan (CTS) with different polyesters. The spheres showed enhanced structure and stability in aqueous media, with decreased hydrophilicity, and were effective in adsorbing lead ions (Pb2+) from aqueous solutions. The experimental data was fitted well with the Freundlich isotherm model, showing the best fit for the adsorption process.

Summary: During summer, urban areas are hot spots for mosquito-borne diseases and air pollution. Public health authorities release aerosolized pesticides at night to control adult mosquito populations. The particle size and half-life of the pesticides are critical for mosquito control, human exposure, and risk assessment.

Summary: Chitosan is an attractive adsorbent, but there are drawbacks that physical and chemical modifications aim to improve. This paper introduces the research background and analyzes the modification, application, and adsorption mechanism of chitosan and its composite materials, reviews the research progress on the adsorption of metal ions, dyes, and anions, and summarizes the main factors affecting their adsorption performance, while also prospecting the development trend of chitosan as adsorbents.

Summary: Chitosan-based nanofibers exhibit outstanding properties for enzyme immobilization, enhancing stability and efficiency. Different methods of enzyme immobilization, such as adsorption, cross-linking, and entrapment, each have their own advantages and challenges that need to be addressed. The application of chitosan-based nanofibers in enzyme immobilization offers opportunities to improve catalytic activity and extend the lifetime of enzymes.

Summary: Chitosan/polyaniline nanofibrous composite membranes were fabricated by electrospinning and exhibited significantly improved adsorption capacity for dyes. The doped polyaniline enhanced the conductivity of the composite membrane, promoting the dye transfer rate and capacity. This study provides a feasible strategy to construct high performance adsorbents for wastewater treatment by introducing conductive polymers into adsorbents.

Summary: Modification of chitosan through methods such as grafting and cross-linking is a promising approach for removing organic and inorganic pollutants from aqueous medium. The performance of modified chitosan for adsorption of pollutants depends largely on the modification method adopted, materials used, and adsorption experimental conditions. Cross-linking is commonly used for improving the stability of chitosan, although it may decrease adsorption capacity, but recent works have shown enhancement through grafting or incorporation of solid adsorbents before cross-linking.

Summary: The successful N-carboxymethylation and concomitant crosslinking of solid chitosan without the use of solvents or catalysts have been reported. The study demonstrated the nucleophilic nature of chitosan's free amine group, which enables it to undergo the N-carboxymethylation reaction. The observed crosslinking was attributed to electrostatic interactions between carboxylate groups and adjacent ammonium groups. The resulting crosslinked carboxymethyl chitosan showed potential for dye adsorption and as an organic catalyst.
