Summary: In this study, nanofibrous membranes were prepared using water-soluble 2-hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin, poly(acrylic acid), and poly(vinyl alcohol) through electrospinning. Thermal treatment was applied to crosslink the membranes and improve their water resistance. The adsorption capacity of levofloxacin hydrochloride by the membranes increased with the content of 2-hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin in the electrospinning solution, due to the inclusion complexation of the cyclodextrin cavity. The adsorption mechanism involved electrostatic attraction, hydrogen bonding, and inclusion interactions. The study presents a facile and green approach to prepare nanofibrous membranes with excellent adsorption performance for levofloxacin hydrochloride.

Summary: Cross-linking mass spectrometry has become an important method for studying protein structures and interactions, with the combination of blue native PAGE and in-gel cross-linking mass spectrometry (IGX-MS) offering a more efficient workflow that avoids certain time-consuming steps. IGX-MS not only reduces the unwanted over-length cross-links compared to traditional in-solution cross-linking, but also allows for the parallel analysis of co-occurring protein complexes using minimal sample amounts. Additionally, IGX-MS has been shown to provide new insights into the initial stages of the terminal complement pathway through experiments on complement components C5, C6, and C5b6 complex.

Summary: In this study, high-performance adsorbents were developed by modifying chitosan with polyethylene glycol and formaldehyde. The adsorption behavior of the prepared chitosan beads in Reactive Red 2 dye wastewater was investigated, and it was found that the adsorption equilibrium followed the Langmuir model and pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The PEGylated chitosan beads showed a high adsorption capacity, attributed to the protonation of NH3+ groups on the surface and the enriched pore structure. HCl solution was effective for the regeneration of the beads, and their swelling behavior was pH-dependent.

The adsorption dynamics of quercetin to the fabric were studied in water-ethanol mixtures, with variations in the quercetin concentration and DNA fraction. Theoretical analysis using two equations based on diffusion-limited and adsorption/desorption dynamics showed the adsorption curves of quercetin to the fabric. The dependence of two time constants and equilibrium adsorbed amounts on the initial concentration of quercetin solutions, DNA content, and fabric weight were discussed.

Summary: This study aimed to extract oil from catfish heads using CO2 supercritical fluid (SFE-CO2), with varying conditions of extraction time, temperature, and pressure. The yield of crude oil from catfish heads using thermal-mechanical extraction was 86%, with concentrations of EPA and DHA at 9.0% and 11.9% respectively. Supercritical extraction resulted in a yield of 84% at 25 MPa and 40°C in 3 hours, with lower concentrations of EPA and DHA at 2.1% and 9.1% respectively. The highest EPA and DHA concentration of 18.3% was achieved at 25 MPa, 40°C, and 1 hour. The oil obtained through SFE-CO2 showed similar characteristics to oil obtained through thermal-mechanical extraction and chemical refinement, suggesting its potential as a sustainable food production method through green technology.

Summary: Crosslinking affects the mechanical behavior and tissue metabolism of collagen-based tissues. Aging and diabetes alter the crosslinking type and density, thus changing tissue properties. High-connectivity enzymatic crosslinking and advanced-glycation end-products result in uniform deformation under daily activity, while low-connectivity enzymatic crosslinking does not. High-connectivity model displays more sliding, while AGEs induce instability in structures near the binding sites.
