Treatment With Recombinant Placental Growth Factor (PIGF) Enhances Both Angiogenesis and Arteriogenesis and Improves Survival After Myocardial Infarction

Background: Placental growth factor (PlGF), a homolog of vascular endothelial growth factor, is reported to stimulate angiogenesis and arteriogenesis in pathological conditions. It was recently demonstrated that PIGF is rapidly produced in myocardial tissue during acute myocardial infarction (MI). However, the effects of exogenous PIGF administration on the healing process after MI are not fully understood. The purpose of the present study was to examine whether PIGF treatment has therapeutic potential in MI. Methods and Results: Recombinant human PlGF (rhPlGF: 10 mu g) was administered continuously for 3 days in a mouse model of acute MI. rhPlGF treatment significantly improved survival rate after MI and preserved cardiac function relative to control mice. The numbers of CD31-positive cells and a-smooth muscle actin-positive vessels in the infarct area were significantly increased in the rhPlGF group. Endothelial progenitor cells (Flk-1(+)Sca-1(+) cells) were mobilized by rhPlGF into the peripheral circulation. Furthermore, rhPlGF promoted the recruitment of GFP-labeled bone marrow cells to the infarct area, but only a few of those migrating cells differentiated into endothelial cells. Conclusions: Exogenous PIGF plays an important role in healing processes by improving cardiac function and stimulating angiogenesis following MI. It can be considered as a new therapeutic molecule. Determinants of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction as clinical presentation of acute coronary syndrome

Summary: The study found that factors such as older age, hyperlipidemia, lack of antiplatelet therapy, higher LDL cholesterol levels, and specific plaque characteristics were associated with an increased probability of STEMI following plaque rupture. Conversely, lack of dual antiplatelet therapy and statin therapy were associated with a higher probability of STEMI following plaque erosion. Antiplatelet therapy was found to be effective in reducing the incidence of STEMI in both plaque rupture and plaque erosion, while statin therapy was particularly beneficial in cases of plaque erosion presenting as ACS.

Predictors of Rapid Plaque Progression An Optical Coherence Tomography Study

Serum iron: a new predictor of adverse outcomes independently from serum hemoglobin levels in patients with acute decompensated heart failure

Optical Coherence Tomography Predictors for a Favorable Vascular Response to Statin Therapy

Predictors for Rapid Progression of Coronary Calcification: An Optical Coherence Tomography Study

Predominant subtype of heart failure after acute myocardial infarction is heart failure with non-reduced ejection fraction

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed 1055 patients with AMI and found that the predominant subtypes of HF after AMI were HF with mid-range ejection fraction and preserved ejection fraction, or HF with non-reduced ejection fraction. The occurrence of HF was associated with left ventricular ejection fraction, with a significant proportion of HF patients having abnormal LVEF values during follow-up.

Summary: The study analyzed the clinical and pathological features of patients with reduced cardiac function in the UCM and DCM groups, finding that the percentage of interstitial fibrosis area in UCM patients was greater than in DCM patients. UCM patients had higher levels of CD68-positive macrophages and MCP-1 expression in the myocardium compared to other groups. Additionally, UCM patients had lower levels of soluble Flt-1 but higher levels of PlGF and MCP-1 compared to DCM patients.
