Summary: This study investigates the physicochemical properties of a series of cation-fluorinated ionic liquids and provides experimental evidence for nanosegregation and triphilicity in these liquids. The introduction of fluoroalkyl chains enhances hydrogen bond interactions between anions and cations and leads to structural rearrangements. The study also demonstrates the use of a group contribution method to predict the density of the liquids.

Summary: Proteins can be stabilized and have improved properties in the presence of ionic liquids (ILs) as cosolvents or surfactants. By using techniques such as small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), fluorescence microscopy, and coarse-grained molecular dynamics (CG-MD) simulations, the interaction between ILs and proteins like lysozyme and bovine serum albumin has been studied. The results show that ILs help maintain the globular structures of proteins and can be used for formulating protein-based pharmaceuticals.

Summary: The carboarylation reaction of biphenyl-alkynes was successfully initiated by electrophilic attack of 1,1-bis(triflyl)ethylene on the alkyne moiety, resulting in polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons decorated with superacidic carbon acid functionality. Neutralization of the obtained acids with NaHCO3 produced sodium salts with improved solubility in both aqueous and organic solvents.

Summary: A series of highly-fluorinated triaminocyclopropenium salts were prepared and their properties as ionic liquids were investigated. Different cations were obtained by reacting pentachlorocyclopropane or tetrachlorocyclopropene with bis(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)amine and a trialkylamine. The salts were characterized by thermal measurements, solubility properties, density, viscosity, and conductivity, and X-ray diffraction studies showed the formation of fluorous and hydrophilic regions.

Summary: In this study, novel ionic liquid electrolytes were successfully synthesized and investigated. These electrolytes exhibited high thermal stability and glass transition characteristics at low temperatures. The infrared spectroscopy measurements and ion transport properties of the electrolytes were in good agreement with calculations. Furthermore, the electrolytes showed remarkable electrochemical stability at high voltages, making them suitable for high reliability lithium battery systems.

Summary: Hybrid materials based on ionic liquids (ILs) and polymers are widely used for the development of smart and multifunctional materials. However, the structural organization of ILs within the polymer matrix is not well understood. This study investigates the structural organization of different ILs incorporated into polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) films and analyzes their effects on the morphological and physical-chemical properties of the materials.

Summary: The synthesis and thermotropic behavior of certain di-alkyloxy-phenyl-1,2,4-triazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate salts with a seven-carbon atom perfluoroalkyl chain on the cation were investigated. The fluorinated salts exhibited typical liquid crystalline behavior, with a 1,2,4-triazole core and varying lengths of alkyl chains on the phenyl ring. The mesomorphic properties of these salts were studied using differential scanning calorimetry and polarized optical microscopy. The results showed the presence of a monotropic, columnar, liquid crystalline phase in the tested salts, with an increased temperature mesophase range and the presence of two enantiotropic mesophases observed with the increase in alkyl chain length on the phenyl ring.

Summary: The enantioselective synthesis of fluorinated indolizidinone derivatives is achieved through an intramolecular aza-Michael reaction, followed by dimethyltitanocene methylenation and ring closing metathesis (RCM). The final products contain a fluorine-containing tetrasubstituted double bond generated by the RCM reaction, demonstrating high challenge. The synthetic sequence exhibits excellent enantioselectivities with acceptable overall yields.

Summary: The chemical industry needs environmentally friendly processes, as acid-catalysed processes may cause environmental problems. The search for sustainable alternatives to conventional acids is urgent. Metal-containing ionic liquids have been of great interest to scientists due to their high Lewis acidity, which depends on the composition of the ionic liquid and the specific content of metal salt. These compounds are widely used as catalysts, co-catalysts, or reaction media in various fields of chemistry, particularly in organic chemistry. Gallium(III)- and indium(III)-containing ionic liquids effectively enhance the activity of metal salts and are easier to handle. This review emphasizes the wide range of applications and the potential of metal-containing ionic liquids, with a focus on Ga(III) and In(III), which can guide further research and synthesis of new compounds in this group.

Summary: A novel strategy to enhance the performance and stability of organic halide perovskite solar cells by adding a small amount of the ionic liquid MA(+)DFA(-) is reported. The ionic liquid can anchor the organic cations via hydrogen bonding and improve the Pb-O interaction, leading to improved stability and superior photo carrier dynamics. Devices with high efficiency and excellent stability over 180 days in a nitrogen atmosphere at room temperature are achieved with the ionic liquid.

This method is compatible with complex, multifunctional structures at either reaction partner. Experimental and density functional theory studies offer insights into the factors controlling site selectivity.

Summary: In this study, a strategy for the synthesis of spirocyclic cyclobutanes with modulable exit vectors based on the regioselective monoborylation of spirocyclobutenes is presented. A wide variety of boryiated spirocycles have been prepared with complete regiocontrol using inexpensive copper salt and a commercially available bidentate phosphine. The boryl moiety serves as a synthetic handled for further functionalization, allowing access to a diverse array of spirocyclic building blocks from a common intermediate.
