A series of novel triazinonide-bridged bisimidazolium pincers were easily synthesized by quaternization of functionalized N-phenylimidazoles with highly reactive cyanuric chloride under mild conditions. The pincer 3c was proven to be a very efficient ligand for in situ Pd-catalyzed Suzuki-Miyaura reaction with ppm-level catalyst loading.

Chromium-Catalyzed Selective Dimerization/Hydroboration of Allenes to Access Boryl-Functionalized Skipped (E,Z)-Dienes

Yinsong Zhao, Shaozhong Ge

Summary: A chromium-catalyzed reaction has been developed for the synthesis of boryl-functionalized skipped dienes. By utilizing a dimerization/hydroboration process, the target product can be obtained efficiently and with good selectivity. EPR spectroscopic studies suggest that the reaction proceeds through a chromium(I) hydride intermediate.

A smart chitosan nonwoven fabric coated with coumarin-based fluorophore for selective detection and efficient adsorption of mercury (II) in water

Xue Chen, Jie Fang, Sijie Liao, Rony Mia, Wenjin Li, Chao Gao, Di Tian, Wei Li

Summary: Developing a material for the sensitive detection and efficient adsorption of Hg2+ ions is essential due to its hazardous nature in water pollution. The synthesized novel coumarin-dithioacetal fluorophore (CA-S) successfully coated on chitosan nonwoven fabric exhibited sensitive sensing and efficient adsorption of Hg2+ ions. The functionalized fabric shows promising potential for real industrial water samples, removing almost 99% of Hg2+ ions efficiently to meet wastewater discharge standards.

Yinsong Zhao, Shaozhong Ge

Summary: The structural diversity of sp(3)-triorganometallic reagents enhances their potential in modular construction of molecular complexity in chemical synthesis. We report a selective triborylation reaction of unactivated alkenes to access synthetically versatile 1,1,3-triborylalkanes. This reaction provides a general platform for regioselective trifunctionalization of unactivated alkenes, and its utility is highlighted by the synthesis of various value-added chemicals from readily accessible unactivated alkenes.

Summary: Research shows that conjugating small molecules such as curcumin and bexarotene with phthalocyanine and porphyrins, which can function as Aβ aggregation blockers, can lead to the development of drug candidates with improved potential. Probe designs with a good hydrophilic-hydrophobic balance, like the ZnPc conjugate analogues, are considered better inhibitors in modulating Aβ(42) aggregation.

Summary: This study presents the design and synthesis of sulfated disaccharide inhibitors based on IdoA(2S)-GlcNS(6S), which showed potent inhibition of Sulf-2. The results suggest that IdoA(2S)-GlcNS(6S) is the shortest fragment size required for effective inhibition of Sulfs, and a trisulfated disaccharide is identified as the minimal fragment size of heparan sulfate for effective endosulfatase inhibition.

Reductive cyclodimerization of chalcones: exploring the self-adaptability of galvanostatic electrosynthesis

Mauro Garbini, Andrea Brunetti, Riccardo Pedrazzani, Magda Monari, Massimo Marcaccio, Giulio Bertuzzi, Marco Bandini

Summary: The self-adaptability of galvanostatic electrolysis was found to be helpful in a multistage chemo- and diastereoselective electrochemically promoted cyclodimerization of chalcones. Through a series of reductive events, densely functionalized cyclopentanes with five contiguous stereocenters were obtained (25 examples, yields up to 95%, dr values up to >20:1). Further experimental and electrochemical investigations indicated the crucial role of dynamic kinetic resolution of the aldol intermediate in the reaction mechanism.

Dhananjay S. Nipate, Neha Meena, Prakash N. Swami, Krishnan Rangan, Anil Kumar

Summary: In this study, the synthesis of functionalized benzo[a]phenazines and indazolo[2,3-a]quinolines was achieved through Rh(III)-catalyzed oxidative annulation of 2-arylquinoxalines and 2-aryl-2H-indazoles with allyl alcohols. The method showed a wide substrate scope, excellent functional group tolerance, good to high yields of annulated products, and the capability for scaled-up synthesis. A tentative mechanism of the annulation reaction was proposed based on a preliminary mechanistic investigation.
