Summary: Compared to adolescents with antidepressant-responsive depression, those with antidepressant-resistant depression have a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes mellitus. Clinicians should closely monitor risk factors related to type 2 diabetes in high-risk populations, especially in adolescents with antidepressant-resistant depression.

Summary: The study analyzed data from 758,254 people with type 2 diabetes and 758,254 matched controls in Hong Kong. It found that type 2 diabetes was associated with increased risks of hospital bed-days for a wide range of medical conditions, and the association varied by age and sex. The study highlights the importance of considering age and sex differences in planning preventive and therapeutic strategies for type 2 diabetes, particularly focusing on mental health disorders.

Summary: The comorbidity of depression with diabetes mellitus (DM) exacerbates depression-related behaviors, possibly due to reduced brain pH. Decreased brain pH is negatively correlated with anhedonia-related behaviors. These findings highlight the importance of glycemic control for both physical and psychiatric health in patients with comorbid depression and DM.

Summary: The prevalence of depression in diabetes mellitus (DM) patients is high, and the new type of oral hypoglycemic drugs called sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors have shown potential in alleviating depressive symptoms. This study focused on the involvement of the lateral habenula (LHb) in the antidepressant effects of the SGLT2 inhibitor dapagliflozin. The results suggest that dapagliflozin directly acts on the LHb to alleviate depressive-like behavior in DM-induced depression.

Summary: In patients with stable coronary heart disease, a trajectory of high stable symptoms of depression was associated with an increased risk of incident diabetes mellitus (DM) and subsequent cardiovascular events (CVE). Identifying depressive symptoms and providing relevant treatment may be an important and promising approach to improve outcomes in patients with coronary heart disease, warranting further research and implementation.

Summary: The study found that negative emotional experience is positively related to diabetes-related distress, while the skill at regulating these emotions is negatively related to diabetes-related distress, with a medium-size relationship between these emotional regulation variables and diabetes-related distress. The data suggest that diabetes-related distress in adults with diabetes is meaningfully linked to negative emotionality and skill at regulating such emotions, with a stronger relationship than perceived psychological stress or diabetes self-care.

Summary: The aim of our study is to evaluate and compare the leaflets of local and imported oral solid over-the-counter medications found in the Palestinian markets. A total of 49 leaflets were evaluated using a scoring method and manual word counting. None of the evaluated leaflets met all 31 criteria, with imported leaflets scoring higher in 19 out of 31 topics. Local products only achieved better scores in 2 topics, and 10 criteria were equally scored between them. The findings highlight a deficiency in the information provided in local package inserts compared to imported versions, and emphasize the need for improved standards in medication leaflets.

Summary: This study evaluated the treatment of anemia in patients with hemodialysis (HD) and found that more than half of the patients had a hemoglobin level below the recommended goal. Furthermore, a significant association was found between patients' hemoglobin level and health-related quality of life (HRQOL). Therefore, adherence to guideline recommendations for the appropriate treatment of anemia in HD patients is essential to improve their HRQOL.
