Summary: This meta-analysis revealed that patients with pediatric-onset IBD have a more than 2-fold increased rate of cancer compared to the general pediatric population, primarily due to an increased rate of gastrointestinal cancers.

Summary: Temperature and precipitation are found to be covariant across timescales. In the contiguous United States, maximum temperatures are anomalously cool on wet days in the warm season, while minimum temperatures are anomalously warm on wet days in the cool season. Climate models exhibit a subtle precipitation dependence of temperature trends.

Summary: The study found inverse associations between certain PFAS concentrations and the risk of Crohn's disease, but no associations with ulcerative colitis risk. This suggests that elevated PFAS exposure may not be associated with higher risk of ulcerative colitis, and some PFAS concentrations may be inversely related to the development of Crohn's disease.

Summary: This study explores the causes of the inverse altitude effect (IAE) from an atmospheric circulation perspective, using the delta D values in global water vapor. The study finds that the IAE is caused by the supply of moisture with higher isotopic values from distant source regions, and intense lateral mixing between the lower and mid-troposphere along the moisture transport pathway. This highlights the importance of considering the influences of these processes in stable isotope paleoaltimetry.

Summary: The study found that smoking was associated with an increased risk of ulcerative colitis, while offering potential protection against Crohn's disease. However, genetic evidence did not support a causal relationship between smoking intensity and the development of these inflammatory bowel diseases.

Summary: Our study demonstrates that CD8(+) tissue resident memory T (T-RM) cells are the main activated T cell subset in ICI colitis. The pattern of gastrointestinal immunopathology in ICI colitis is distinct from ulcerative colitis at both the immune and epithelial-signaling levels. Activation of CD8+ T-RM cells correlates with clinical and endoscopic severity of ICI colitis.

Summary: This study found that numerous environmental and dietary factors influence the development of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in both Western and Eastern populations. Some factors, like family history, smoking, and vitamin D deficiency, increase the risk of IBD, while others, such as farm animals, physical activity, and Helicobacter pylori infection, provide protection against IBD.

Summary: Protecting and restoring degraded arid lakes is a globally urgent issue. This study documents the potential recovery of the dried salt-lake Lop Nur in China through analyzing the changes and relationship of surface water with climate parameters and groundwater over the last 30 years. The findings show that increased surface water in the basin has led to a positive response in the groundwater level of Lop Nur since 2015, with a slower rate of decline. This study provides an encouraging case for the protection and restoration of degraded lakes in dryland regions worldwide.

Summary: The study found a high incidence of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in Spain, similar to that reported in Northern Europe. IBD patients require substantial therapeutic resources, especially in cases of Crohn's disease (CD) and in hospitals with high resources, which are much higher than previously reported.

Summary: Urban green space is important for providing health promoting facilities, but unequal distribution among socio-demographic and socio-economic groups can lead to environmental injustice. This study explores the relationships between characteristics of residents and their access to different types of green space in four Nordic cities. The results show variations in access and proportions of green space between and within the cities, with differences based on age, education, immigration status, and income.
