Summary: A Global Burden of Disease study revealed that 9.6 million years lived with disability were lost due to hip and knee osteoarthritis in 2017. This study aims to investigate the epidemiology of knee osteoarthritis in Kazakhstan, utilizing data from 56,895 patients between 2014-2020. The findings highlight age and sex-based differences, as well as regional disparities in the incidence of knee osteoarthritis, providing valuable insights for the development of specific diagnostic approaches and personalized therapy protocols.

Summary: The study aimed to measure and compare the burden of disease of the COVID-19 pandemic in 16 EU/EEA countries through the estimation of Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALYs) over a long period of time. Results showed notable differences among countries, with most of the disease burden attributable to Years of Life Lost (YLLs).

Summary: This study estimated the burden of childhood asthma using disability-adjusted-life-years (DALYs) and found that the DALYs due to childhood asthma were high and increased with age. The study emphasizes the need for a holistic approach to childhood asthma control, considering the limitations children face in their daily lives and environmental factors.

Summary: This study assessed the impact of mammography-based screening on quality of life using DALYs and QALYs, finding that almost the same strategies were on the efficiency frontiers. The choice of outcome measure may lead to differences in ICERs.

Summary: This study quantified the disease burden of acute COVID-19 in the Netherlands in 2020 using the disability-adjusted life-years (DALY) measure. The total disease burden was estimated to be 286,100 DALY, with 99.4% of it consisting of years of life lost. The per-capita burden increased sharply with age, starting from 60 to 64 years, and was relatively low for individuals under 50 years old. These findings provide valuable information for public health decision-makers in planning targeted preventative interventions.

Summary: The quantification of indoor air health is a complex issue due to the presence of various contaminants. Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALYs) is a metric used to measure the health implications of exposure to specific contaminants. This article introduces a novel method called Dynamic DALYs, which can estimate DALYs in real-time and for different time periods. The use of Dynamic DALYs provides detailed and comprehensive results regarding health and energy use in indoor environments.

Summary: This study developed an innovative teleconsultation platform to address health issues in high-altitude areas. Through remote video conferences, patients could receive diagnoses and treatment recommendations from physicians in an outdoor setting. The platform successfully handled a large number of teleconsultation cases.

Summary: This report reveals that the DALYs caused by TB in China have significantly decreased from 1990 to 2019, with higher burden among men and the elderly. The application of DALYs can effectively reflect the health damage caused by tuberculosis in Chinese residents and provide scientific basis for decision-making.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on premature mortality and disease burden in Taiwan, with males being more affected than females. The severity of the disease contributes 63.9% to the variability in DALY estimates. Maintaining moderate social distancing, border control, hygiene measures, and increasing vaccine coverage levels are crucial for reducing infection risks and disease burden.

Summary: This study discovered that ascending to high altitude can lead to physiological and molecular changes, resulting in some individuals being unable to acclimatize. Predicting acute mountain sickness (AMS) prior to ascent remains a challenge. Proteomic analysis revealed significant differences in inflammatory and immune-related processes between AMS-susceptible and AMS-resistant groups. Potential biomarkers, such as SAP, AAT, LTF, and HSP90-alpha, were identified for the prediction of AMS at low altitudes.

Summary: This study examined the disease burden of North Korean defectors in South Korea by sex, age, and disease from 2000 to 2018, finding major depressive disorders, cirrhosis of the liver, and low back pain as the top disease burden. The results also showed a consistent decrease in the disease burden of North Korean defectors from 2010 to 2018.

Summary: Dermatitis is a global health problem that has significant impact on social interaction, physical and mental health, and has economic burden. Understanding the burden of dermatitis is crucial for developing effective global intervention strategies. The burden of dermatitis is associated with socioeconomic development status, particularly for atopic dermatitis.

Summary: Population ageing in China from 1990 to 2017 was associated with 92.8 million DALYs, with males having more DALYs than females. The top five causes of DALYs associated with population ageing were stroke, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), ischemic heart disease, tracheal, bronchus, and lung cancer, and liver cancer. The reduction in age-specific DALY rates had a greater impact on DALYs changes compared to population ageing, with modifiable risk factors accounting for a large portion of the reduction.

Summary: In the future, tuberculosis will pose a heavy burden on the aging population in Korea. This study measured DALYs and economic burden on DS-TB and MDR-TB patients from 2014 to 2017 and found that the burden of DS-TB was decreasing while MDR-TB remained burdensome. Additionally, the economic burden was higher for men below the age of 79, but higher for women aged 80 and above.

Summary: Female urinary incontinence is mainly caused by damage to the female urethral supporting structures, particularly the connective tissue part, which remains unclear and controversial. This study utilized thin-sectional anatomical images and high-resolution MRI images to reconstruct and examine the structures supporting the female urethra, including muscular and connective tissue components.
