Summary: The burden of HIV, hepatitis B virus (HBV) and syphilis was found to be high among children in urban Ethiopia. Maternal factors, including maternal HIV status and breastfeeding, were identified as key determinants. Therefore, the elimination of the triple infections of HIV, syphilis, and HBV should be a priority.

Summary: The study found that the prevalence of HIV, HCV, and syphilis among heroin-only users and poly-drug users decreased during the study period, while the prevalence of HIV and HCV among synthetic drug-only users increased. Being aged & GE; 35 years old was an associated factor for HIV, HCV and syphilis infection among the SD-only users, and female drug users were at high risk of contracting syphilis among three different drug users.

Summary: This study demonstrates the effectiveness and feasibility of infectious disease screening programs for migrants. The results show that migrants from Africa are vulnerable to infection with hepatitis B virus, hepatitis C virus, and human immunodeficiency virus during their journey. Women, individuals who stayed in Libya for a long time, and those who experienced physical and/or sexual violence are more susceptible to viral infections.

Summary: This study analyzed data from 4,826,214 married individuals aged 21-49 years in Guangdong Province, China, to investigate the association between duration of marriage (DoM) and age with preconception syphilis seroprevalence (PSS). The study found that PSS was higher in underdeveloped areas and had a J-shaped non-linear association with age. The risk of seropositivity increased rapidly after a certain age for both men and women. DoM was negatively associated with PSS, and the combined effects of age and DoM were synergistic.

Summary: This study evaluates screening algorithms for hepatitis B and C virus, HIV, and Treponema pallidum among anatomical donors, with a focus on the impact of postmortem time on hemolysis and its influence on test results and donor discard rate. Early postmortem blood sampling is crucial, as hemolysis can affect certain test results and the allocation of donors.

Summary: HBV/HCV co-infection is common in HIV-1-infected prisoners. Italian prisoners are mainly infected with HIV-1 subtype B, while non-Italian prisoners may have different HIV subtypes and HCV subtypes. Some inmates were found to carry HIV variants with resistance mutations. It is necessary to monitor and control HIV, HBV and HCV infections in prisoners to limit the spread of these viruses.

Summary: This study assessed the rates of syphilis and viral co-infections among people who use crack-cocaine in northern Brazil. The findings revealed a high prevalence of syphilis among this population, which was associated with factors such as age, income, education level, duration of crack-cocaine use, condomless sex, multiple sex partners, and exchange of sex for money/drugs.

Summary: This study explores the couple-level determinants of syphilis infection among heterosexual married couples. The results show that duration of marriage, age gap, and difference in education level are associated with syphilis infection, but these associations differ between men and women. Condom use is negatively associated with syphilis infection. These findings are important for the development of couple-based strategies for syphilis prevention.

Summary: Intravenous drug users (IDUs) are at high risk for HIV-1, hepatitis C virus (HCV), and hepatitis B virus (HBV) infections. The plasma virome of IDUs and its association with these viral infections were investigated using viral metagenomics. The study found that IDUs, especially those with major viral infections, had higher viral abundance and diversity compared to healthy individuals. Anelloviridae dominated the plasma virome and coinfections of multiple anelloviruses were common. The study also identified novel anellovirus ORF1 sequences and transmission clusters of pegivirus among IDUs.

Summary: This paper investigates the problem of overcoming controller vulnerability in nonlinear uncertain switched systems considering actuator saturation. The sufficient condition for nonfragile robust exponential stabilization is derived using the method of minimum dwell time. Switching law and nonfragile state feedback controllers are then designed to achieve robust exponential stabilization. Additionally, the design issue of controllers is transformed into a convex optimization problem with linear matrix inequalities (LMI) constraints, aiming to enlarge the estimation of domain of attraction for the closed-loop system.

Summary: This study reports the use of bacterial cells for the biosynthesis of Au@TiO2 as an efficient catalyst for the degradation of methylene blue. The bio-Au2@TiO2 catalyst showed the highest catalytic activity with a kinetics constant of 0.195 min(-1), and maintained stable activity for up to 10 cycles. The presence of Au nanoparticles on the bio-TiO2 layers decreased the band gap energy of TiO2, leading to the generation of abundant photogeneration hydroxyl radicals and enhanced photocatalytic activity.

Summary: The study found that the variability of water use efficiency (WUE) in ecosystems is mainly influenced by transpiration (T) under drought conditions. Vegetation in arid areas tends to adapt to drought by increasing their WUE. The role of gross primary productivity (GPP) and evapotranspiration (ET) jointly dominate WUE variability in semi-arid/arid areas.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of glucose, fructose, sucrose, and molasses on the anaerobic fermentation of Chinese cabbage waste. Fructose and molasses additions significantly increased lactic acid production, acetic acid production, ammonia nitrogen formation, and reduced neutral detergent fiber level. Glucose and sucrose additions had limited effects on organic acid production. Additionally, carbon source additions enriched acid-producing bacteria, upregulated carbohydrate and lipid metabolism pathways, and reduced the abundances of specific bacteria. Overall, fructose and molasses additions enhanced the recycling of Chinese cabbage waste into organic acids.

Summary: The emergence of Digital Twin Edge Networks (DTENs) enables the mapping of physical entities to digital models in cyberspace. Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) servers are used to process and model real-time mobile data, achieving efficient Digital Twin (DT) services. However, the dynamic DT service demand generated by mobile users easily leads to service congestion, challenging the long-term stability. To address these issues, an incentive-based congestion control scheme is proposed, utilizing Lyapunov optimization theory and a contract-based incentive design. Experimental simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of the scheme in avoiding long-term service congestion while maximizing profit.

The addition of AELRK significantly increased gel strength, storage modulus, and disulfide bond of surimi gels (p < 0.05), especially at 10% AELRK, where gel strength and disulfide bond were enhanced by 14.7% and 41.6% respectively. Adding 10% AELRK also improved the cross-linking degree and microstructure of surimi gels.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the post-treatment effect of dorzagliatin in drug-naive patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) in terms of achieving stable glycaemic control and drug-free diabetes remission. Significant improvements in insulin secretion index, disposition index, and HOMA2-beta and HOMA2-IR were found to be important factors in achieving drug-free remission. Furthermore, the study observed that dorzagliatin treatment led to an increase in time in range (TIR) of glucose homeostasis from 60% to over 80% in the SEED trial.

Summary: This article proposes an image-based impedance control scheme for an under-actuated aerial manipulator. It introduces a dynamic-level image-space visual servoing controller to achieve compliant interaction with unknown environments without requiring feedback of external wrench and Cartesian position. The article also presents a decoupled attitude tracking control task to address the under-actuation property of the system. Experimental results validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
