Summary: This observational study suggests that in psychiatric patients, taking valproate may lead to an increase in body mass index and a decrease in HDL-C levels, while compared to it, patients taking aripiprazole maintain stable metabolic parameters.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between BMI and the risk of impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) and impaired fasting glucose (IFG) in Chinese adults. The results show that obesity is an important risk factor for IGT and IFG in China, and the risk of IGT increases during the overweight stage.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the association between impaired fasting glucose (IFG) and incident albuminuria in a non-diabetic Chinese community-based cohort. The results showed that IFG was independently associated with incident albuminuria and there was a gradable risk relationship. This suggests that screening for albuminuria should be emphasized in population with IFG to prevent and treat it in an early stage.

Summary: This study identified and examined factors associated with prediabetes in the Chinese population according to different criteria from the American Diabetes Association (ADA). The study found that there were differences in correlated factors of prediabetes under different criteria, and obesity indicators were easily measured and useful for target identification. The findings of this study could be used for targeted interventions to reduce the prevalence of diabetes.

Summary: This study investigated the association between obesity indicators and the risk of impaired fasting glucose (IFG) in women, and found that obesity and abdominal obesity were consistently associated with increased odds of developing IFG after 8 years in both pre- and postmenopausal groups, with a stronger association in the premenopausal group. This highlights the need for weight management and lifestyle modification in premenopausal women.

Summary: This study compared health behaviors and health literacy between individuals with non-IFG and IFG, identifying factors associated with IFG by sex. In males, age, high BMI, frequent drinking, and nutrition label usage were significant factors, while low economic status and high BMI were affecting factors in females. Employment status, perceived stress, and job type were not related to IFG in both genders. Strategies should target specific groups to improve health behaviors and literacy, with healthcare providers understanding barriers for effective service delivery.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the association between body mass index (BMI) and mortality in elderly Chinese individuals with different glycemic statuses. The results showed that higher BMI was associated with reduced mortality in individuals with normal fasting glucose (NFG) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), but not in individuals with impaired fasting glucose (IFG).

Summary: The study revealed that individuals without traditional ASCVD risk factors are at increased risk of developing CVD with higher levels of abnormal fasting plasma glucose, underlining the importance of prevention strategies targeting elevated FPG levels in addition to other traditional ASCVD risk factors.

Summary: The study revealed a significant association between uric acid levels and markers of prediabetes, insulin resistance, and insulin sensitivity in overweight/obese youth. Higher uric acid levels were correlated with elevated markers of impaired glucose metabolism, particularly post-challenge conditions.

Summary: This study found a positive association between nickel exposure and diabetes prevalence in Chinese adults. Increased urinary nickel concentrations were associated with higher diabetes prevalence and fasting blood glucose levels. Additionally, the association between nickel and diabetes was stronger in individuals with lower rice consumption.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between thyroid hormone sensitivity and uric acid metabolism in a Chinese population. The results showed that impaired thyroid hormone sensitivity was associated with elevated uric acid levels. This finding is important for understanding the role of thyroid hormone sensitivity in uric acid metabolism.
