Summary: This study aimed to investigate the potential effects of alpha-ketoglutarate (alpha-KG) on implant osseointegration in an osteoporotic mouse model. The results showed that the supplementation of alpha-KG in drinking water enhanced dental implant osseointegration in ovariectomized mice, with increased osteogenic and autophagic activity, and decreased osteoclast differentiation and cell apoptosis. Moreover, alpha-KG-treated bone-marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells exhibited enhanced proliferation, survival, colony formation, and osteogenic differentiation, as well as autophagic activity. Therefore, systemic alpha-KG supplementation effectively prevents the failure of dental implant osseointegration in mice under an osteoporotic state.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of antibiotic prophylaxis on dental implant placement surgery-induced osteoimmune wound healing and osseointegration. The results showed that prophylactic antibiotics caused bacterial dysbiosis, suppressed helper T-cell immune response, reduced the number of osteoblasts and osteoclasts, and weakened the bone-implant interface. These findings suggest that antibiotic prophylaxis dysregulates the osteoimmune wound healing process induced by implant surgery.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of the dispersion state of osteoconductive ceramics (OCs) in implants on osseointegration ability. The findings show that composite implants made of carbonate apatite (CAp) granules with polylactic acid (PLA) exhibit improved bone maturation, higher bone-to-implant contact, and stronger adhesive shear strength compared to implants made with dispersed OC powder. This highlights the importance of the dispersion state of OCs in material development for enhancing osseointegration.

Summary: A silicon-releasing coating for titanium substrates was fabricated using electron beam evaporation, which activated an anti-inflammatory macrophage phenotype and created an osteoimmune microenvironment conducive to interfacial osteogenesis. The mechanism of silicon-enhanced osteoimmunology established in this study provides both practical means and theoretical evidence to improve implant-to-bone osseointegration.

Summary: A multifunctional nanocoating has been developed for titanium mini-implants to prevent bacterial infection and promote osseointegration. The nanocoating, consisting of antimicrobial peptides GL13K and silver nanoparticles (Ag-GL), showed excellent antibacterial properties without altering the surface morphology of the mini-implants. In vivo experiments demonstrated that the Ag-GL coating significantly enhanced osseointegration and new bone formation.

Summary: The study developed a dual-delivery system that sequentially released substance P (SP) and alendronate (ALN) to promote bone regeneration and reduce bone resorption, improving implant osseointegration. The dual-delivery system increased BMSC migration, promoted osteogenic differentiation, and inhibited osteoclastogenesis. In a rat immediate implant model, the system showed enhanced peri-implant osteogenic property and osseointegration, suggesting a promising strategy for immediate implant osseointegration.
