Biomaterials is an international journal covering the science and clinical application of biomaterials. A biomaterial is now defined as a substance that has been engineered to take a form which, alone or as part of a complex system, is used to direct, by control of interactions with components of living systems, the course of any therapeutic or diagnostic procedure. It is the aim of the journal to provide a peer-reviewed forum for the publication of original papers and authoritative review and opinion papers dealing with the most important issues facing the use of biomaterials in clinical practice. The scope of the journal covers the wide range of physical, biological and chemical sciences that underpin the design of biomaterials and the clinical disciplines in which they are used. These sciences include polymer synthesis and characterization, drug and gene vector design, the biology of the host response, immunology and toxicology and self assembly at the nanoscale. Clinical applications include the therapies of medical technology and regenerative medicine in all clinical disciplines, and diagnostic systems that reply on innovative contrast and sensing agents. The journal is relevant to areas such as cancer diagnosis and therapy, implantable devices, drug delivery systems, gene vectors, bionanotechnology and tissue engineering.

The second manuscript, BM, explored a new field that the laboratory had not previously touched upon, and a lot of effort was put into investigating the mechanisms. It was submitted on July 16, 2020, and rejected on September 18, 2020. There were two reviewers, one of whom accepted it directly, while the other requested major revisions. However, the editor rejected it outright. This left me puzzled. Following the suggestions of the second reviewer, we conducted additional experiments to address the questions raised. On December 8, 2020, we resubmitted the revised manuscript. However, it seemed to have disappeared into thin air, as the status remained at "with editor." During this time, I sent an email to the editor once to inquire about the manuscript's status. The reply stated that the manuscript had been found and was being handled by another editor. Finally, on March 2021, when I casually checked the status, it showed that the manuscript had been accepted directly. The submission process was tumultuous and frustrating, but fortunately, it ultimately yielded a positive outcome.

7.7 submission, 8.2 first review comments received, editor requested revisions by 9.30, revised manuscript uploaded and responded to comments on 9.20, accepted on 9.29.

The two reviewers raised a total of eighty-nine questions, all of which were explicitly recommended for acceptance during the first review. The experiments that needed to be supplemented were relatively simple except for the animal experiments, which were more complex. Our research project has a large amount of data, and various mechanistic experiments have been verified from multiple angles, with detailed work.

Originally, we thought that it might not be submitted for review, or it would take at least six months to be accepted. However, due to the increasing influence in recent years, it has become more and more difficult to submit. The result was surprisingly fast. The impact factor for this year has increased to 15.3, and the quality of the articles published in Biomaterials is also very good and highly recognized. I wish Biomaterials continued success!
