Summary: By studying the fault geometry and dynamics of the M15 block in the Andaman Sea using 3D seismic data, we have identified the presence of eight sequence interfaces, large scale extensional strike-slip faults, and normal faults. The F1 and F2 faults, which control the regional structure, are influenced by the collision between the Indian plate and the Eurasian plate. The analysis of fault development history suggests that the Miocene is a significant period for plate collision enhancement and fault generation.

Summary: Microproteins are a novel and expanding group of small proteins encoded by less than 100-150 codons, translated from small open reading frames (smORFs). Research results show that these microproteins have different amino acid compositions, similar structural characteristics, and fewer small-molecule ligand binding sites compared to regular proteins.

Summary: In this study, a protein docking evaluation method called PointDE is proposed, which utilizes a 3D point cloud neural network. PointDE is able to capture the geometry of the point cloud and learn the interaction information from the protein interface, showing superior performance on public datasets and an antibody-antigen dataset.

Summary: Toxoplasma gondii is a widespread protozoan parasite that affects human and animal health. The consumption of raw or undercooked meat is a known risk factor for human infections, but there are currently no regulations for controlling T. gondii in the meat industry. Current meat safety assurance systems have limited control over this parasite, as traditional meat inspection methods are not effective in detecting T. gondii cysts, and available laboratory tests lack sensitivity and specificity. A risk-based meat safety assurance system that includes farm categorization and targeted interventions, along with education of stakeholders, is a potential solution for better control over T. gondii in the meat industry.

Summary: Structure evaluation is crucial for in silico 3-dimensional structure predictions of biomacromolecules like proteins and RNAs. Statistical potentials have proven effective for protein structure prediction over three decades and have recently been developed for RNA structure evaluation, influenced by progress in protein structure prediction. Future focus is on developing new statistical potentials for RNAs.

Summary: This study focused on improving the beam-spring FE modeling approach to reproduce the realistic performance of buried pipelines and determining an appropriate damage criterion. By evaluating FE models and considering pressure and shear forces caused by fault movement, it was found that local increases in soil spring stiffness around high curvature zones affect soil-pipe interaction forces on pipelines. This phenomenon is not considered in traditional beam-spring models, leading to potential underestimation of forces on pipelines.

Summary: The fiber formation of a repetitive domain from a minor ampullate silk protein was investigated in this study. pH and salt concentration were found to affect the stability, self-assembly, and aggregation of the protein. The three-dimensional structure of the protein in aqueous solution was determined using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, revealing that charge-dipole interactions are responsible for the pH- and salt-dependent properties of the protein. These findings have implications for the design of silk proteins for mass production of spider silk.

Summary: Currently, it is challenging to image small-scale abnormal geo-bodies near wells using borehole acoustic imaging due to the neglect of information from scattered waves and the predominant use of reflected waves, resulting in low imaging resolution. In this study, a 3D scattered wave spatial scanning imaging method is developed to make full use of multimode scattered waves for high-resolution imaging of small-scale abnormal geo-bodies near wells.

Summary: This study investigates the computational methods of the dynamic electro-geometrical model (DEGM) and proposes an improved model (IDEGM) that significantly reduces computation time. By using a conversion factor and eliminating ground surface points, the computation time of DEGM is reduced from over 14 hours to approximately 6 minutes. The performance of IDEGM is tested and it achieves a high interception efficiency, closely matching published results.

Summary: This paper introduces a stable 3D sliding-induced hexagonal auxetic metamaterial concept, demonstrating higher compression resistance and stable auxetic behavior through theoretical modeling, finite element analysis, and experimentation. Additionally, the sensitivity of performance and auxetic behavior to the friction coefficient in the sliding mechanism is investigated.

Summary: The organic salt (S)-nicotinium 2,6-dihydroxybenzoate undergoes reversible single crystal to single crystal phase transition at 104 K. The phase transition was monitored using temperature dependent single crystal X-ray diffraction and was attributed to symmetry breaking translations and rotations of the crystal components.

Summary: Molecular dynamics simulation is a powerful tool for exploring the conformational energy landscape of proteins, and the reliability of the results depends on the underlying force field. Efforts have been made to address biases in force fields at different levels, such as local conformations, secondary structures, and global extendedness of polypeptide chains. Solutions have been proposed for optimizing torsional parameters and achieving balance between protein-protein and protein-water interactions to improve the overall performance of force fields.

Summary: This study demonstrates that taking into account the uncertainty introduced by multiple sequence alignment in reconstructing phylogenies can significantly increase the correlation between Glade correctness and its corresponding bootstrap value. The new Weighted Partial Super Bootstrap method can improve the predictive power of bootstrap values and enhance the discrimination capacity between correct and incorrect trees.

Summary: The blood coagulation cascade in vertebrates is controlled by a cascade of more than 20 proteins. This study examined the proteomes of 21 chordates to understand the evolutionary patterns of the cascade. The findings showed that gene and genome duplications played a role in the formation of additional coagulation cascade proteins in higher vertebrates.
