A general formalism to include experimental reaction cross sections into calculations of stellar rates is presented. It also allows us to assess the maximally possible reduction of uncertainties in the stellar rates by experiments. As an example for the application of the procedure, stellar neutron capture reactivities from KADoNiS v0.3 are revised and the remaining uncertainties shown. Many of the uncertainties in the stellar rates are larger than those obtained experimentally. This has important consequences for s-process models and the interpretation of meteoritic data because it allows the rates of some reactions to vary within a larger range than previously assumed.

129I and 247Cm in meteorites constrain the last astrophysical source of solar r-process elements

Summary: By comparing the ratio of iodine-129 and curium-247 in meteorites, researchers have constrained the last r-process source in the Solar System, finding that moderately neutron-rich conditions are most consistent with the meteoritic data. However, uncertain nuclear physics data limit confidence in this conclusion.

Summary: This study successfully validated the feasibility of i-TED for high-resolution time-of-flight experiments and demonstrated the concept of background rejection for the first time. Experimental results showed that i-TED has a detection sensitivity approximately 3 times higher than state-of-the-art detectors in the neutron energy region of astrophysical interest. The study also explored the potential for further performance enhancement with a final i-TED array consisting of twenty position-sensitive detectors and new analysis methodologies based on Machine-Learning techniques.

Measurement of the 91Zr(p,γ)92m Nb cross section motivated by type Ia supernova nucleosynthesis

Gy Gyurky, Z. Halasz, G. G. Kiss, T. Szucs, R. Huszank, Zs Torok, Zs Fulop, T. Rauscher, C. Travaglio

Summary: The synthesis of heavy, proton-rich isotopes in astrophysical processes, such as type Ia supernova explosions, remains poorly understood. One such isotope, Nb-92, is synthesized through reactions like Zr-91(p, gamma)Nb-92. Experimental cross sections were not available for this reaction, so nucleosynthesis models had to rely solely on theoretical calculations. This study successfully measured the cross section of Zr-91(p, gamma)Nb-92m at astrophysical energies, confirming predictions used in astrophysical simulations.

Summary: This study conducted the first direct measurement of the Rb-83(p, gamma) radiative capture reaction cross section in inverse kinematics, showing that the measured cross section is lower than predicted in the relevant energy window for core collapse supernovae. This discrepancy leads to a higher abundance of Sr-84 in the astrophysical p process than previously calculated, indicating the need for further experimental investigation of p-process reactions involving unstable projectiles.

Summary: The accurate measurement of the Ce-140(n,gamma) energy-dependent cross-section provides crucial insights into the cerium abundance in stars. By using a sample enriched in Ce-140 to 99.4%, the study aimed to address the discrepancy between measured cerium abundance in globular clusters and the predictions from theoretical models. The analysis of p-wave resonances and calculation of their parameters are essential in improving the evaluation of the Ce-140 Maxwellian-averaged cross-section.

3D stellar evolution: hydrodynamic simulations of a complete burning phase in a massive star

F. Rizzuti, R. Hirschi, W. D. Arnett, C. Georgy, C. Meakin, A. StJ Murphy, T. Rauscher, V. Varma

Summary: In this study, 3D simulations of a convective neon-burning shell in a 20 M-circle dot star were performed, revealing the importance of convective zones in stellar structure and evolution. By revising the modeling of convective boundary mixing in 1D models, consistent results were obtained with multi-D simulations. This has significant implications for theoretical predictions related to stellar evolution, nucleosynthesis, supernova explosions, and compact remnants.

Summary: This study investigates the contribution of capture and photodisintegration reactions on excited states in the nucleus to the astrophysical reaction rate in hot plasma environments like stellar explosions. Experimental measurements are proposed to improve the predictive power of theoretical reaction rates and constrain reaction models. The feasibility of measuring (gamma, p) and (gamma, alpha) reactions using the ELISSA detector system at the VEGA facility is investigated.
