Summary: This study reveals that excessive iron can lead to osteoporosis by inducing ferroptosis and impairing osteoblast differentiation. Excessive iron increases the accumulation of intracellular labile iron, resulting in the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and lipid peroxidation products (LPO), leading to ferroptosis. The study further demonstrates that iron inhibits osteoblast differentiation by suppressing the canonical Wnt signaling pathway. However, the use of iron chelator, Wnt agonist, or antioxidant can reverse these effects and restore osteoblast differentiation.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the mechanisms of Cd-induced mitochondrial toxicity. By examining the mitochondrial morphology, MMP, metabolomic and proteomic analysis in the liver of juvenile olive flounder, it was found that Cd exposure could disrupt the mitochondrial morphology, energy metabolism, and apoptosis in the liver mitochondria.

Summary: Sanguinarine induces cell death in human cervical cancer cells through activation of both apoptosis and ferroptosis pathways. Apoptosis is characterized by caspase activation and PARP cleavage, while ferroptosis involves SLC7A11 down-regulation, GSH depletion, iron accumulation, and lipid peroxidation. These findings suggest that apoptosis and ferroptosis act as partners in Sanguinarine-mediated tumor suppression. Additionally, Sanguinarine increases the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and inhibiting ROS blocks the induction of both apoptosis and ferroptosis.

Summary: This research investigates the potential of enzymatic hydrolysis of olive flounder by-products (OFB) to produce functional ingredients. Various enzymatic hydrolysates of OFB (OFBEs) were generated using 11 commercial enzymes, and OFBEs showed enhanced physiological usability and muscle regenerative potential, particularly with Prozyme 2000P-assisted OFBE (OFBP).

Summary: Chemokines are a superfamily of chemotactic cytokines that regulate leukocyte migration and immune responses. PoCCL34, a fish-specific CC chemokine, induced chemotaxis and inflammatory response in olive flounder, but did not increase expression of antiviral genes. These results suggest that PoCCL34 plays a significant role in the immune response of flounder by mediating inflammation.

Summary: Synthesized organometallic gold-based folate nanoparticles (FAuNPs) have been proven to protect against lipopolysaccharide-induced brain inflammation and can overcome folate deficiency in the brain. FAuNPs demonstrate high physical stability and effective uptake, suggesting their potential applications in alleviating brain inflammation and reducing brain injury and neurodegeneration.

Summary: Ferroptosis provides insights into designing nanomedicines for cancer therapy. However, its efficacy is limited due to cancer cells' self-protective mechanisms. A nanoplatform, MPDA@Fe3O4-Era, is constructed to amplify reactive oxygen species (ROS) and lipid peroxidation (LPO) for enhanced ferrotherapy.

Summary: The study found that adding 0.05-0.1% of micelle silymarin to the feed significantly improved the growth performance, feed utilization, immune response, and antioxidant capacity of olive flounder. It also promoted the development of intestine and liver tissues. Compared to regular silymarin, micelle silymarin showed similar or higher effects even at low supplementation levels. Therefore, dietary micelle silymarin is expected to be a more effective and economical supplement for olive flounder.

Summary: This study aims to explore the specific mechanism of action between ferroptosis and vascular dementia (VD) in order to find effective therapeutic targets. KLKB1 knockdown was found to alleviate cognitive disorder and inhibit ferroptosis in VD by reducing oxidative stress, lipid peroxidation, and iron content.

Summary: Increasing CO2 emissions and climate change lead to rising water temperatures, reduced pH, and salinity levels in the ocean. This study investigates the physiological response of juvenile olive flounder to combined hyposalinity and acidification. The findings suggest that hyposalinity poses a greater stressor to the olive flounder compared to acidification, and provide insights into their ability to cope with future ocean acidification.

Summary: The study showed that increasing dietary squid liver powder (SLP) content led to significant improvements in weight gain and feed efficiency in juvenile olive flounder, as well as an increase in cadmium accumulation in the viscera. However, the cadmium content in the whole body remained within safe levels.

Summary: The study found that neuron-targeting exosomes conjugated with mAb GAP43 can deliver quercetin specifically to damaged neurons, improving neuronal survival and neurological recovery by inhibiting ROS production. Que/mAb GAP43-Exo may serve as a promising dual targeting and therapeutic drug delivery system for alleviating cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury.

Summary: This study found that supplementing the diet of juvenile olive flounder with an appropriate amount of GABA significantly improved their growth, immune function, and ability to resist specific bacterial infections. These results demonstrate that GABA is an important functional feed additive.
