Summary: The study reveals that food inflation has a significant impact on child undernutrition, particularly on wasting and stunting. It shows that rising food prices increase the risk of malnutrition among children, especially in poor areas, rural areas, and among boys.

Summary: In low and middle sociodemographic index countries, pneumonia, diarrhea, and malaria are responsible for over one third of all deaths in children under five, many of which are associated with malnutrition. Children from the poorest households and those facing difficulties accessing healthcare are more likely to suffer from these diseases.

Summary: Wasting is a dynamic process with onset and recovery, peaking between birth and 3 months. More children experience wasting at some point during their first 24 months than prevalent cases at a single point in time suggest. Children wasted before 6 months show faster recovery but increased risk of growth faltering and mortality. Seasonal factors affect child growth and should be considered for intervention.

Summary: This study analyzes data from 21 longitudinal cohorts and finds that child wasting is a dynamic process with onset and recovery occurring mainly between birth and 3 months. The prevalence of wasting is higher than previously thought, and seasonality plays a role in child growth.

Summary: Although the number of published economic evaluations of child nutrition interventions in low- and middle-income countries increased between the 2000s and 2010s, there are gaps in the quality of these publications, indicating a need for stronger methodological and reporting guidance. Most research focused on undernutrition from South Asia and sub-Saharan Africa, and more empirical data from different regions and various types of nutrition interventions are needed in the future.

Summary: The integrated community case management (iCCM) strategy has shown some improvement in the coverage of appropriate treatment for childhood illnesses in children under five years of age, but has not shown a significant impact on neonatal mortality. Further research is needed, particularly on infant and under-five mortality rates and quality of care.

Summary: Diabetes mellitus in children is mainly caused by impaired insulin secretion or increased insulin resistance; early diagnosis of the underlying cause is essential for severe insulin resistance patients. Comprehensive review of medical history and physical examination can provide sufficient information to diagnose children with insulin-resistant diabetes correctly, especially in low- or middle-income countries.

Summary: Cancer burden is increasing globally, especially in low- and middle-income countries. These countries lack comprehensive cancer control programs and funding, therefore primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention strategies are needed to reduce the cancer burden.

Summary: This study examines the level and distribution of unrealized fertility in low and middle-income countries across three geographical regions. The findings indicate that unrealized fertility is highest in Western and Central Africa and decreases with an increasing number of children. Factors such as education, wealth quintile, and contraceptive use are associated with decreased unrealized fertility.

Summary: The study found that the rates of VTE are significantly higher in high-income and upper middle-income countries than in lower middle/low-income countries, especially among individuals with lower BMI, hypertension, diabetes, non-White ethnicity, and higher education levels.

Summary: This research develops microestimates of wealth and poverty distribution at a fine resolution for low- and middle-income countries. These estimates are based on machine learning algorithms applied to various data sources including satellites, mobile phone networks, and Facebook. The estimates are provided for free to facilitate targeted policy response to the COVID-19 pandemic and support sustainable development.

Summary: The impact of the COVID-19 crisis on maternal and child nutrition outcomes in low- and middle-income countries is projected under different scenarios, with a focus on mitigating excess child stunting and mortality through nutrition interventions. The disruptions caused by the pandemic could lead to an increase in wasted and stunted children, along with additional child deaths and maternal anaemia cases. Governments and donors will need to invest additional resources to scale up nutrition interventions and address the potential long-term productivity losses.

Summary: COVID-19 has presented new challenges and opportunities in infection prevention and control. Virtual infection prevention and control (VIPC) is emerging as a viable strategy, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) with limited healthcare resources. However, current literature on VIPC mainly focuses on developed countries, and there is a need for further research and exploration of VIPC implementation in LMICs.

Summary: The study found that approximately 49% of parents in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (L & MICs) accept vaccinating their children against COVID-19. The main determinant of their decision is the belief that the vaccine is essential in fighting the pandemic, while concerns regarding efficacy, safety, and side effects contribute to vaccine hesitancy.
