Summary: In this study, the complete chloroplast genome of Lonicera ruprechtiana was identified using high-throughput sequencing data. The genome was found to be highly conserved with other congeneric species, and phylogenetic analysis showed a close relationship with Lonicera insularis. Most genes were under purifying selection pressure, indicating strong evolutionary conservation. This study provides valuable genetic information for further research on the evolution of Lonicera ruprechtiana.

Summary: We report a new TROL protein, TROL2, which plays an important role in the establishment of photoautotrophy and assembly of photosystem II (PSII) complex. TROL2 forms a complex with LOW PSII ACCUMULATION2 and interacts with small PSII subunits to facilitate PSII complex assembly. Our study reveals the mechanistic role of TROL2 and provides insights into the molecular and evolutionary mechanisms of photoautotrophy and PSII complex assembly.

Summary: Although diverse fossil angiosperms have been reported from the Early Cretaceous, their documentation is limited due to poor preservation and limited technologies. In this study, we applied paraffin sectioning and microscopy techniques to document a new fossil reproductive organ, Xilinia gen. nov., from Inner Mongolia, China. The morphological characteristics of Xilinia indicate a transitional stage in plant evolution that is not present in extant plants.

Summary: Safflower, a popular crop with high linoleic acid and flavonoid content, diverged from artichoke and sunflower millions of years ago. Unique expansions in gene families related to lipid metabolism and flavonoid biosynthesis were found in safflower, with key genes such as FAD2 and CHS exhibiting tandem duplications. This study provides insights into the evolutionary history and molecular basis of fatty acid and flavonoid biosynthesis in safflower.

Summary: Inferring insect pollination from fossils is challenging due to the lack of consensus on insect pollinator definition and the difficulty of recognizing this ecological relationship in deep time. In this study, we propose a conceptual definition and operational classification for these insects and identify fossil pollinators from 15 insect families, providing evidence of pollination relationships since the Upper Jurassic. This research offers a nuanced understanding of the origin and evolution of an ecological relationship that is crucial for modern terrestrial ecosystems.

The use of matched filter technique and Benford's Law has helped in identifying these seismic events. Summary: Shifts from cis-to trans-splicing of mitochondrial introns may not be uncommon among angiosperms, as evidenced by the study on Tolypanthus maclurei, a hemiparasitic plant from the family Loranthaceae (Santalales). In addition to five shared trans-spliced introns in seed plants, this species exhibited shifts in splicing patterns for additional introns, including two specific to T. maclurei. Furthermore, a chimeric gene atp1 in its mitogenome suggested horizontal gene transfer from Lamiales.
