Summary: A new method incorporating crown ether molecules in the solvent for nano-DESI MSI allows for quantitative imaging of alkali metal ions and endogenous lipids/metabolites. Applied to an ischemic stroke model, this method revealed dynamic tissue sodium and potassium concentrations, along with changes in lipids, neurotransmitters, and amino acids.

Summary: Mapping the distribution of a prodrug (fenofibrate) through the rat gastrointestinal tract using MALDI-MSI revealed hydrolysis of fenofibrate to the active drug in the stomach. The study also found the presence of taurocholate and phospholipids in the lumen of the small intestine.

Summary: Photobiomodulation is effective for pain treatment. This study investigated the effect of percutaneous laser irradiation on firing in the rat spinal dorsal horn. The findings suggest that percutaneous laser irradiation inhibited firing in response to noxious stimulus but not to less intense stimuli. The relationship between laser intensity and its effect could inform clinical practice.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of chronic kidney disease-associated pruritus on patients' quality of life. The findings suggest that in addition to the severity of itching, it is important to consider how the individual is affected physically, mentally, and socially by the itching, which is more closely related to generic quality of life measurement.

Summary: The quantity-intensity relationship was used to evaluate the thermodynamic parameters of zinc in soils under different agricultural management. The presence of calcium carbonate was found to increase the exchangeable zinc and zinc capacity in soils. These findings can be used as a reference for zinc fertilizer application and predicting soil's ability to supply available zinc.

Summary: As individuals age, dysfunctional microglia may contribute to the onset of neurodegenerative diseases through impaired phagocytosis, cholesterol efflux, and enhanced secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Specifically, microglia lacking lipoprotein lipase exhibit a pro-inflammatory lipid profile, increased cholesterol ester content, and reduced cholesterol efflux, leading to excessive accumulation of lipid droplets. Activation of PPAR pathways by agonists can rescue this phenotype, suggesting a potential therapeutic strategy for aging and neurodegenerative diseases.
