Summary: Aging leads to a decline in mucosal immunity, increasing susceptibility to infections through the gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts in the elderly. Research has shown down-regulation of FAE- and M cell-related genes in aged mice Peyer's patches, alongside an upregulation of ACE2 expression which may increase susceptibility to SARS-Cov-2 infection. Additionally, key Paneth cell-related genes were reduced in the ileum of aged mice, suggesting potential impacts on gut epithelium regenerative ability and M cell differentiation.

Summary: Fabrication of future materials through self-assembly of nano-building blocks programmed to generate specific lattices is a challenging goal of nanotechnology. A simple strategy to fabricate nanoparticles with multiple silica patches has been developed, showing potential applications in controlling the properties of particles through experimental parameters. Further developments include obtaining pure batches and optimizing the relative position of patches for repulsion figures.

Summary: Radix Astragali polysaccharide (RAP) can enter Peyer's patches (PPs) and directly contact dendritic cells through the transportation by microfold (M) cells. This interesting transcytosis mechanism might apply to many other immunomodulatory polysaccharides.

Summary: This study presents a simple method to shape the morphology of PS-b-PDMS microparticles, by utilizing core-cross-linked polymeric nanoparticles (CNPs) as cosurfactants. The addition of pH-responsive CNPs makes the shape of pH-inert PS-b-PDMS microparticles sensitive to pH value. The microparticles can transform from elongated Janus pupa-like particles to onion-like particles by decreasing the pH value of the aqueous phase.

Summary: Various nanoparticulate systems have been engineered to enhance the bioavailability of orally administrated vaccines by targeting microfold cells (M cells) within Peyer's patches (PPs). A novel clearing-based imaging technique was developed to quantitatively determine the distribution of nanoparticles within ex vivo murine PPs, revealing enhanced translocation of M cell-targeted nanoparticles compared to non-targeted ones. This approach may aid in the design of improved oral vaccines.

Summary: In this work, first-order reversal curve (FORC) analysis was used to investigate silicone elastomer composites reinforced with ferromagnetic microparticles. The FORC diagrams of the composites were found to exhibit characteristic wing features resulting from the collective hysteresis of the magnetically soft particles. The influence of matrix elasticity and particle concentration on the shape of the wing feature was also explored.

Summary: Increasing the antigen uptake and achieving an antibody and Th1 immune response against malaria infection is crucial. The study found that adsorbing MSP2 antigen onto Ace-DEX microparticles and alum adjuvant both elicited antibody responses in vivo, but only Ace-DEX microparticles were able to elicit a significant Th1-biased response against the intracellular pathogen. MSP2 adsorbed to Ace-DEX microparticles shows promise as a malaria vaccine.

Summary: A simple method for producing polymeric microparticles with controlled 3D shapes from 2D micromolds via mold geometry-mediated tunable mold swelling and capillarity has been reported. The addition of wetting fluid triggers mold swelling and capillarity, allowing the production of highly uniform microparticles with complex shapes through photopolymerization. By varying mold composition, mold swelling can be further enhanced, expanding controllability in 3D shape and enabling simultaneous production of spherical and non-spherical particles using a single mold.

Summary: Pure positive electrostatic charges (PPECs) have suppressive effect on invasive cancer cells without affecting normal tissues. PPECs are used to deliver drug-loaded polymeric nanoparticles (DLNs) into tumor sites. DLNs synthesized by PLGA have stable negative charges and great attraction to PPECs. The targeted-retarded release of drugs can achieve local therapy with lower drug concentration and negligible side effects in non-targeted organs.

Summary: Research has shown that properties of polymeric particle vaccines such as size, surface charge, degradation rate, and co-delivery of antigen and adjuvant have an impact on immune responses. Before commercialization, factors like endotoxin, route of administration, and others need to be considered for the development of efficacious and marketable vaccines.

Summary: This study aimed to improve the water solubility and stability of cannabidiol (CBD) using micelle technology. CBD-loaded mixed micelles (CBD-M) composed of Poloxamer 407 (P407) and rubusoside (RUB) were successfully prepared and showed significant improvement in solubility and encapsulation efficiency. The CBD-M solution remained stable and maintained the antioxidant activity of CBD after dilution and centrifugation. These findings suggest that CBD-M could serve as a promising formulation for enhanced CBD delivery.
