Materials derived from biological sources not only offer biocompatibility but also adjust with the disease for elongated treatments and more effective therapies. These materials can be utilized as building blocks to construct state of the art drug delivery vehicles like nanoparticles, hydrogels, and nanofibers capable of dramatically enhancing the therapeutic efficiency in cancer treatment. New emerging trends in drug delivery design are constantly reported in recent literature using carbohydrates like cellulose, chitosan, and alginate and proteins like albumin, collagen, gelatin, and zein. In addition, drug vehicles with combination of carbohydrates and proteins have proved extremely effective. This article reviews carbohydrate and protein-based materials in fabrication of cutting edge drug delivery systems and clarifies their future impact in therapeutic methods to cure cancer.

Summary: The proposed approach involves the development of a novel lab-on-a-chip device for the rapid detection of P. aeruginosa using immunomagnetic separation, optical scattering, and machine learning. The method can specifically and quantitatively detect P. aeruginosa within 10 minutes, with the total assay time being 25 minutes. The device was shown to classify the pathogen accurately with a high classification performance using support vector machines (SVM) among other classifiers.

Recent Progress in Spectroscopic Methods for the Detection of Foodborne Pathogenic Bacteria

Mubashir Hussain, Jun Zou, He Zhang, Ru Zhang, Zhu Chen, Yongjun Tang

Summary: Early detection of foodborne pathogens is critical for food quality control and medical response improvement. Traditional detection methods are time-consuming, expensive, and cumbersome. Therefore, the integration of spectroscopy techniques with artificial intelligence and advanced materials has become a popular research direction. This paper provides an overview of the progress and application of spectroscopy techniques, including surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy, surface plasmon resonance, fluorescence spectroscopy, multiangle laser light scattering, and imaging analysis, for the rapid detection of foodborne pathogens. The paper also discusses the potential applications of artificial intelligence, microfluidics, smartphone-based techniques, and advanced materials in this field.
