Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) remain a common and major problem in healthcare. Severe cutaneous adverse drug reactions (SCARs), such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS)/toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) with mortality rate ranges from 10% to more than 30%, can be life threatening. A number of recent studies demonstrated that ADRs possess strong genetic predisposition. ADRs induced by several drugs have been shown to have significant associations with specific alleles of human leukocyte antigen (HLA) genes. For example, hypersensitivity to abacavir, a drug used for treating of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, has been proposed to be associated with allele 57:01 of HLA-B gene (terms HLA-B* 57:01). The incidences of abacavir hypersensitivity are much higher in Caucasians compared to other populations due to various allele frequencies in different ethnic populations. The antithyroid drug- (ATDs-) induced agranulocytosis are strongly associated with two alleles: HLA-B* 38:02 and HLA-DRB1* 08:03. In addition, HLA-B* 15:02 allele was reported to be related to carbamazepine-induced SJS/TEN, and HLA-B* 57:01 in abacavir hypersensitivity and flucloxacillin induced drug-induced liver injury (DILI). In this review, we summarized the alleles of HLA genes which have been proposed to have association with ADRs caused by different drugs.

Effect of Coiling Temperature on Microstructure and Properties of Titanium Strengthened Weathering Building Steel

Zhengrong Li, Zhenhu Lv, Chuangwei Wang, Lei Liu, Kaiyu Cui, Zhengzhi Zhao

Summary: This study investigates the strengthening effect of Ti microalloying on weathering steel used in building. It analyzes the microstructure and performance at different coiling temperatures and explores the relationship between cooling rate and hardness. The results show that decreasing the coiling temperature increases the strength and yield ratio of the steel.

Unveiling Cryptic Species Diversity and Genetic Variation of Lasiodiplodia (Botryosphaeriaceae, Botryosphaeriales) Infecting Fruit Crops in Taiwan

Ya-Zhu Ko, Wasantha Kumara Liyanage, Huei-Chuan Shih, Min-Nan Tseng, Meng-Shin Shiao, Yu-Chung Chiang

Summary: This study investigated the diversity and genetic variation of Lasiodiplodia species in Taiwan and identified several new infection records. The study found that the diversity of Lasiodiplodia in Taiwan had been underestimated, and L. theobromae exhibited high genetic diversity and low gene flow. The high genetic diversity and host-associated differentiation of Lasiodiplodia species indicate their powerful evolutionary potential in Taiwan.

Pharmacogenomics on the Treatment Response in Patients with Psoriasis: An Updated Review

Ching-Ya Wang, Chuang-Wei Wang, Chun-Bing Chen, Wei-Ti Chen, Ya-Ching Chang, Rosaline Chung-Yee Hui, Wen-Hung Chung

Summary: The efficacy and safety of psoriasis medications have been proven in trials, but suboptimal responses and side effects are observed in clinical practice. Genetic predisposition plays a role in the development of psoriasis, suggesting the potential for pharmacogenomics to predict individual treatment response. This review emphasizes current pharmacogenetic and pharmacogenomic studies of medical therapy in psoriasis. HLA-Cw*06 status remains the most promising predictive marker for treatment response in certain drugs, and various genetic variants have also been associated with treatment response for different medications. The application of high throughput sequencing technologies in clinical settings may enable pharmacogenomic tests prior to treatment in the future. Further research is needed to identify potential genetic markers for psoriasis treatments.
