Summary: In this study, Chinese researchers isolated Chinese yam polysaccharide (CYP) from yam and then obtained the sulfated derivative (S-CYP). They evaluated the immunomodulatory activity of S-CYP in RAW 264.7 cells and investigated its mechanism of action. The results showed that S-CYP had excellent immunomodulatory activity by increasing the viability of macrophage cells and stimulating the production of immune-related proteins. Signal transduction experiments revealed that S-CYP activated MAPK and NF-κB pathways through TLR4, leading to the increased expression of immune proteins. These findings suggest that both CYP and S-CYP can serve as immunomodulatory agents with potential applications in the food and pharmaceutical industries.

Summary: The study identified two acidic polysaccharides, AVPG-1 and AVPG-2, from Amomum Villosum Lour., with AVPG-2 showing stronger immunomodulatory effects including inducing nitric oxide and interleukin release, enhancing phagocytic capacities, and polarizing macrophages towards the M1 direction. This suggests that AVPs could be potential immunomodulatory agents for functional foods or complementary medicine.

Summary: This study evaluated the immunomodulatory effect of imidacloprid on macrophages. The results showed that imidacloprid has a concentration-dependent cytotoxic effect on macrophages and affects the cells' inflammatory response and mitochondrial depolarization. These findings suggest that imidacloprid has immunomodulatory effects and mitochondria may regulate innate immune responses in imidacloprid-induced cytotoxicity.

Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of different levels of wheat bran dietary fibre (WBDF) and raw wheat bran (RWB) on the properties of flour and dough. WBDF was found to better inhibit starch retrogradation and improve dough characteristics compared to RWB. WBDF enhanced water absorption, development time, stability time, and mechanical resistance, while RWB had negative effects on these properties. WBDF also improved the viscoelasticity and strength of dough.

Summary: CMDP-4b, a pectic polysaccharide extracted from Cucurbita moschata Duch, possesses immunomodulatory activity by inducing nitrous oxide and cytokine secretion, as well as promoting macrophage activity through the NFκB and MAPKs signaling pathways. Toll-like receptor 4 and complement receptor 3 may play a critical role in CMDP-4b-induced macrophage activation.

Summary: We characterized the structure and immunomodulatory activity of a polysaccharide (GP2a) isolated from Gardenia jasminoides Ellis. GP2a is an acidic polysaccharide mostly composed of galacturonic acid residues, with homogalacturonan and rhamnogalacturonan-I regions in the main chain. GP2a showed no toxicity to macrophages and enhanced cell viability. It also increased the production and secretion of various cytokines.

Summary: This study investigates the immunological action of complex pectin by studying its interaction with Toll-like receptors (TLRs). The research shows that pectic heteropolysaccharides (HPSs) derived from terrestrial plant cell walls can bind to TLR4 and activate the immune response. The findings provide a better understanding of the interaction between complex carbohydrates and proteins.

Summary: The discovery of the potential of paraprobiotics to exert different immunological benefits suggests the need for further studies to determine their potential and mechanisms of action in modulating the immune system. This study investigated the immune response of macrophage cell lines, stimulated with lipopolysaccharide, to several microbial-associated molecular patterns (MAMPS) at different doses. The results showed that MAMPS at different doses had varying effects on immune response, and paraprobiotics may contribute to improving intestinal homeostasis, immunomodulation, and host metabolism.
