Summary: To remove radioactive cesium ions from wastewater, researchers synthesized graft copolymer of chitosan-g-poly(acrylic acid/N-vinylcaprolactam) [CTS-P(AA/VC)]. The copolymer's shape, thermal stability, and structure were characterized using SEM, TGA, and FT-IR. Batch sorption experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of various parameters on the adsorption process. Kinetics data were analyzed using different models, and the Langmuir and Freundlich equations were used for isotherm modeling. The copolymer showed promising potential in treating cesium-134 ions-containing liquids.

Summary: In this study, physically cross-linked hydroxyethyl cellulose grafted polyacrylic acid-co-polyacrylamide/silver nanocomposite with excellent antimicrobial and enhanced MB adsorption properties was developed. Silver nanoparticles were prepared using a green in-situ reduction process and characterized using UV-Vis spectroscopy, TEM, ATR-IR, XRD, SEM-EDS. The swelling ratio of the nanocomposite was dependent on the content of AgNPs and pH. The nanocomposite demonstrated good swelling kinetics and controlled release behavior. The grafting of HEC and incorporation of AgNPs improved the thermal stabilities and activation energies of the nanocomposite. The nanocomposite showed strong antimicrobial activity against various bacteria and high adsorption capacity for MB under specific conditions.

Summary: We synthesized a ?-irradiated chitosan-ZnO-AgNPs (ICZA) composite using hydrogels method and evaluated its adsorption, photocatalytic degradation, and antibacterial abilities. The obtained samples were characterized using XRD, SEM, TEM, EDS, and FTIR techniques. The ICZA showed high adsorption capacity and photocatalytic activity, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 92.59 mg/g and an apparent rate constant of 3.08 x 10(-2) under UV light. It also exhibited good antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, with a MIC and MBC of 12.5 g/mL and 50 g/mL, respectively. The hypothesized mechanism of its adsorption and photocatalytic activity, as well as antibacterial activity, was discussed.

Summary: Hydrogel nanocomposites comprised of chitosan-grafted-hydrolyzed polyacrylamide as matrix and montmorillonite clay as nanofiller were successfully synthesized as efficient adsorbents for removing Basic Red 46 dye. The nanohybrid hydrogels showed superior water-absorbing ability, thermal stability, pH-sensitivity, and high adsorption efficiency for the dye due to electrostatic interactions and hydrogen bonding. Effective regeneration and multiple cycles of dye release indicate their promising potential in treating water contaminated with cationic dyes.

Summary: Biosorption using a chitosan-pectinase blend (CPB) was studied for the removal of methylene blue (MB) dye from synthetic solutions. The blend showed a rough surface morphology and amorphous nature. Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) analysis confirmed the successful blend formation. Maximum adsorption was achieved at pH 7.0, 30°C, 30 min contact time, and an adsorbent dosage of 2.5 g/L. The pseudo-second-order model provided the best fit, with the highest R2 value close to 1. The Temkin isotherm model showed the highest adsorption capacity at 16.81 mg/g. The blend demonstrated good desorption ability, allowing for reuse in dye removal.

Summary: This study aimed to remove the cationic dye Astrazon red 6B (AR) from water using a low-cost and environmentally friendly adsorbent. A nanocomposite hydrogel, composed of (Gum Acacia/Acrylamide)-calcinated Eggshell/Graphene oxide (GA/AAm)-ES/GO, was created using Gamma radiation-induced copolymerization and crosslinking. The nanocomposites exhibited superior adsorption behavior towards AR due to the dual effect of ES and GO. The maximum monolayer dye adsorption capacity (qmax) was found to be 313.3 mg/g, and the pseudo-second-order adsorption kinetics fitted the data well with a rate constant of (0.108 10(-3)) g -mg(-1) -min(-1). The efficiency of (GA/AAm)-ES/GO remained high for up to three rounds of reuse.

Summary: Plasma protein binding plays a crucial role in the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of therapeutic bioactive materials. In this study, the interaction of nordentatin, a member of coumarins, with human alpha-1 acid glycoprotein (AGP) was investigated, and the anticancer potency of nordentatin against human colorectal cancer cells was evaluated. The results showed that nordentatin binds to AGP through a static quenching mechanism and exhibits inhibitory effects on the growth of HCT-116 cells by increasing intracellular ROS and [Ca2+] levels and triggering apoptosis-related gene overexpression. Therefore, nordentatin could be a promising plant-based therapy for colorectal cancer.
