Different layered ZnO nanotower arrays can be successfully grown on ZnO nanorod films by in situ replenishing of the reaction precursors. The volume and timing of replenishment of the reaction precursors plays an important role in controlling the morphology of ZnO nanostructures. Two-layered ZnO nanotower arrays can provide a higher surface-to-volume ratio and more exposed polar surface, resulting in higher photocatalytic activity under 10 W UV light irradiation.
