Materials Letters has an open access mirror journal Materials Letters: X, sharing the same aims and scope, editorial team, submission system and rigorous peer review.

Materials Letters is dedicated to publishing novel, cutting edge reports of broad interest to the materials community. The journal provides a forum for materials scientists and engineers, physicists, and chemists to rapidly communicate on the most important topics in the field of materials.

Contributions include, but are not limited to, a variety of topics such as:

• Materials - Metals and alloys, amorphous solids, ceramics, composites, polymers, semiconductors
• Applications - Structural, opto-electronic, magnetic, medical, MEMS, sensors, smart
• Characterization - Analytical, microscopy, scanning probes, nanoscopic, optical, electrical, magnetic, acoustic, spectroscopic, diffraction
• Novel Materials - Micro and nanostructures (nanowires, nanotubes, nanoparticles), nanocomposites, thin films, superlattices, quantum dots.
• Processing - Crystal growth, thin film processing, sol-gel processing, mechanical processing, assembly, nanocrystalline processing.
• Properties - Mechanical, magnetic, optical, electrical, ferroelectric, thermal, interfacial, transport, thermodynamic
• Synthesis - Quenching, solid state, solidification, solution synthesis, vapor deposition, high pressure, explosive

On April 5th, I wrote a reminder letter urging them to accept it quickly. I received an email reply stating that the opinions of two reviewers have not yet come back, but one review has already been received.

On April 16th, at 4:30 pm, I was drinking with my high school classmates when I received a WeChat notification from my teacher that the article has been accepted. I immediately ordered a bottle of beer to celebrate.

In summary, the editing speed was still fast, but most of the time was spent waiting for the busy reviewers who kept delaying. Additionally, it was difficult to find reviewers who were familiar with traditional processing methods and materials. Sometimes, it was not that the editor didn't want it to be done quickly, but rather that they couldn't find suitable reviewers. I contacted ten reviewers, but only three agreed to review. Therefore, in the future, if there is a deadline for an article, I will try to submit it as early as possible. After all, the article can only meet graduation requirements once it is published.

Furthermore, I would like to mention the situation with my submission. I am planning to graduate in June and am currently waiting for the pre-defense. This article being accepted is a requirement for graduation. Therefore, I submitted it before the Chinese New Year, hoping that it would be published by mid-March. However, by the time of the pre-defense (April 12th), it was still in the "under review" stage after responding to the reviewer's comments. It was extremely awkward, as every day delayed the submission. In the end, good things come to those who wait, and it was successfully accepted. I wish myself a smooth graduation!

With an extremely complicated mood, I wrote this review. It wasn't until the second half of my third year of research that I prepared to submit it. After searching, I felt that this journal had a relatively fast average speed, so I decided to submit to it with my advisor's approval. Then came the incredibly uncomfortable process.

On March 26th, I submitted it.
On March 29th, I made formatting revisions.
On April 2nd, the journal received it.
And then the long, long, long peer review process began.
Until the time of degree conferment, there were still no reviewer comments. I felt disheartened.

Starting from the end of May, I wrote three reminder letters one after another, all requesting for a bit more time as it was still under review.

My advisor was worried that it would delay the issuance of my degree certificate, so I rushed to publish another paper based on my work. As a result, on July 10th, I received reviewer comments from the newly submitted journal, but there was still no result from Materials Letters.

Then, on the morning of July 11th, my supervisor called me and told me that it had been directly accepted. They showed me the email, which only had a few simple questions from the second reviewer, and the first and third reviewers didn't even participate.

It took more than three months, but it was accepted. I consider myself lucky that it didn't affect my job offer.

To those who are considering submitting to this journal, be cautious!
