Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the association between dietary vitamin D intake and serum vitamin D concentrations with cognitive performance in older Americans. The results showed a positive association between dietary vitamin D intake, serum total 25-hydroxyvitamin D, and cognitive performance, with no significant gender differences in the associations. Further research is needed to clarify the effects of dietary vitamin D intake and specific serum D concentrations on cognitive performance.

Summary: This study investigates the association between vitamin D deficiency and COVID-19 severity among survivors. The findings show a correlation between vitamin D deficiency and severe cases, as well as the presence of post-acute sequelae of COVID-19 (PASC) among survivors. Gender and BMI are also found to be related to vitamin D levels, but not to the presence of PASC.

Summary: Inflammatory mechanisms and vitamin D play important roles in the pathophysiology of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). This study found that ASD patients had significantly higher levels of inflammatory markers and significantly lower levels of vitamin D. There was a negative correlation between vitamin D and inflammatory markers.

Summary: This study assessed the relationship between assumed risk factors for maternal vitamin D deficiency and levels of cord blood 25(OH)D-3 and C-3-epimer. The results showed that vitamin D deficiency was common in newborns, especially those born to mothers who did not receive vitamin D supplementation and had poor sun exposure.

Summary: Our study found that 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 (25(OH)D3) can exist in the human circulation in the sulfated form, and can be metabolized by vitamin D-metabolizing cytochromes P450 (CYPs). Specifically, CYP27A1 can convert vitamin D3 sulfate to 25(OH)D3 3-sulfate, while CYP11A1 can convert vitamin D3 sulfate to 20(OH)D3 3-sulfate, but at a lower rate.

Summary: This study compared the modulation of the transcriptome of human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) by the vitamin D metabolites 25-hydroxyvitamin D-3 (25(OH)D-3), 25(OH)D-2, and 1 alpha,25-dihydroxyvitamin D-3 (1,25(OH)(2)D-3). The findings showed that 25(OH)D-3 and 25(OH)D-2 were equally potent in modulating the transcriptome of PBMCs at supra-physiological concentrations, possibly by directly activating the vitamin D receptor.

Summary: In this study, it was found that the lipid component of dairy drinks can affect the absorption of vitamin D, with olive oil potentially improving absorption. There was a significant time effect on changes in 25(OH)D concentrations after consuming the olive oil dairy drink in participants with insufficient levels of vitamin D. Further research is needed to explore the practical implications of altering the lipid component of fortified foods.

Summary: There is a strong positive linear correlation between free 25(OH)D (f25(OH)D) and total 25(OH)D, making them useful for assessing vitamin D levels. The recommended threshold level for f25(OH)D is 8.499 pg/mL, corresponding to a target concentration of at least 30 ng/mL for t25(OH)D. The upper limit for vitamin D is still unclear, with most experts favoring a upper limit of 100 ng/mL for t25(OH)D.

Summary: This study found a quasi J-shaped relationship between serum circulating 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) level and risk of recurrent stroke in patients with a stroke history. The lowest risk of recurrent stroke was observed at a 25(OH)D level of approximately 60 nmol/L, which was associated with a 48% reduction in risk compared to a level of 10 nmol/L.

Summary: 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) is essential during pregnancy and deficiency can increase the risk of preeclampsia. Current research on the effects of 25(OH)D deficiency and supplementation on pregnancy outcomes shows contradictory results.

Summary: The correlation between maternal vitamin D concentrations and birth outcomes is conflicting. This study found that the maternal vitamin D metabolite ratio, specifically VMR2, is associated with neonatal anthropometric data regardless of 25(OH)D concentrations. Accurate measurement of vitamin D metabolites can help understand the effects of vitamin D on birth outcomes.

Summary: The study found that 25-hydroxyvitamin D-3 concentrations 100 to 1000 times higher than the reference 10 nM 1,25(OH)(2)D-3 can affect the transcriptome of PBMCs with a profile similar to that of 1,25(OH)(2)D-3.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the combined effect of maternal and neonatal VDBP polymorphism heterogeneity in conjunction with different maternal and neonatal 25(OH)D cutoffs on neonatal anthropometric profile at birth. The findings suggest a potential role for neonatal VDBP genotypes rs2298850 and rs4588, in conjunction with specific neonatal 25(OH)D cutoffs, in affecting neonatal growth and development. However, no significant effects were observed for maternal VDBP polymorphisms or maternal 25(OH)D concentrations at birth on neonatal anthropometry.

Summary: Vitamin D is an important hormone that can be obtained through diet or exposure to UVB radiation. Limited research has been conducted on the effects of UVB on domestic rabbits, but initial findings have shown that artificial UVB exposure for 12 hours can increase their vitamin D levels. This study aimed to determine if shorter-duration UVB exposure can have a similar effect. The results demonstrated that 6 hours of artificial UVB exposure over 14 days can indeed increase vitamin D levels in rabbits.
