Summary: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurological disease characterized by chronic inflammation and immune-driven demyelination of the central nervous system. Changes in gut microbiome driven by dietary habits may contribute to the increase in MS cases. This review explores the impact of diet on the development and course of MS by feeding the gut microbiome, discussing the role of nutrition, gut microbiota, and potential microbiome-targeted therapies.

Summary: Sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P) is a crucial signaling molecule with diverse biological functions that are mediated through its receptors, playing a significant role in cell proliferation, immune responses, and gut-brain axis regulation. The modulation of S1PR has promising therapeutic potential in immune-mediated diseases like multiple sclerosis by affecting immune cells, gut barrier, and the central nervous system.

Summary: The symbiotic relationship between animals and their resident microorganisms has significant effects on host immunity, with specific antigens from bacteria showing immunomodulatory effects. In experimental disease models like EAE and MS, the PSA from B. fragilis demonstrates beneficial outcomes.

Summary: Intestinal microbiota can influence immune cell responses through bacterial antigens or metabolites. Diet plays a major role in shaping microbiota composition and metabolism, affecting host homeostasis and disease susceptibility. The exact mechanism of how diet and microbiota affect gut-brain communication is still being explored.

Summary: Cirrhotic portal hypertension is characterized by the development of serious complications such as ascites, encephalopathy, bleeding, and hepatorenal syndrome, which are often caused by cirrhosis-associated immune dysfunction. Bacterial infections are common complications of chronic liver disease and are closely linked to dysbiosis of the intestinal microbiota.

Summary: Influenza A, a common subtype of flu, causes millions of severe infections and hundreds of thousands of deaths each year. Vaccination is the traditional method to prevent influenza A, but its effectiveness is limited due to antigenic changes in the virus and lag in vaccine production. Therefore, alternative therapies are being explored. Recent studies have shown that regulating the gut microbiota can enhance the immune response against influenza A.

Summary: Multiple sclerosis (MS), a prevalent demyelinating disease of the central nervous system, primarily affects young adults. The autoimmune response of lymphocyte cells against myelin components leads to inflammation, demyelination, and axonal degeneration. Gender-related factors, such as sex hormones and genetic differences, contribute to the higher prevalence in women. Dysbiosis of gut microbiota and oral biology alterations may also play a role in the pathogenesis. This study aims to explore gender differences in MS and their potential involvement in the oral-gut-brain axis.

Summary: This review summarizes the current understanding of anti-Gal antibody response in immune disorders and discusses the origin of Gal antigen associated with gut microbiota. The possible mechanisms by which altered microbiota and/or circulating anti-Gal level could affect immune response in multiple sclerosis are presented.

Summary: ILC3 has been shown to play a crucial role in regulating Treg cells and counteracting pathogenic cells, as well as stabilizing the intestinal barrier and shaping immune responses to the gut microbiota. Understanding the role of ILC3 in the gut-CNS axis and its implications for MS pathogenesis may offer new therapeutic strategies for MS patients.

Summary: Many scientific studies have found a significant link between human intestinal microbiota, eating habits, and the development of chronic-degenerative diseases. The composition and function of microbiota can affect chronic inflammatory mechanisms. This paper focuses on the changes in the gut microbiota of MS patients, its implications for health and disease, and the variables that influence it. It also discusses the role of microbiota in modulating immune responses in both the intestine and the brain, as well as the potential of microbiota modulation as a therapeutic approach for MS. Additionally, a case study evaluates the significance of gastrointestinal pains indirectly related to dysbiosis and the willingness of MS patients to use probiotics to modulate gut microbiota.

Summary: The gut-liver axis plays a crucial role in host-microbiota communications and immune homeostasis. In diseases such as hepatic cirrhosis, gut dysbiosis and impaired intestinal barrier lead to immune alterations in the liver and other organs. This review discusses the immune changes in the gut-liver axis and how microbiota-derived immune remodeling contributes to the progression of hepatic cirrhosis.

Summary: Salt-sensitive hypertension in patients with high blood pressure is associated with higher morbidity, mortality, and renal damage compared to those with normal blood pressure or salt-resistant hypertension. Dietary components other than salt play a role in modulating hypertension, and immunity and inflammation are key factors that amplify the development of salt-sensitive hypertension.

Summary: This article reviews the characteristics of gut dysbiosis in multiple sclerosis (MS), as well as its relevant links with the course of the disease and dysregulated immune response and metabolic pathways in the pathology of MS. The therapeutic implications of these findings, including various interventions targeted at the gut microbiome, are also discussed.
