Summary: The aim of this study was to investigate the protective mechanism of geraniol against cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury (CIRI). The results showed that geraniol effectively attenuated cerebral infarction and pathological injury, reduced ER-stress-related protein expression and apoptosis occurrence, and increased anti-apoptotic protein expression, suggesting a protective effect against CIRI.

Summary: Arsenic is the primary toxicant among hazardous environmental chemicals, implicated in neurotoxicity such as cognitive dysfunction, neurodevelopmental changes, and neurodegenerative diseases. It is believed that sustained pro-inflammatory response may trigger arsenic-induced neurotoxicity, potentially involving microglia activation and release of pro-inflammatory cytokines. Further research is needed to clarify the role of these cytokines in arsenic-induced neurotoxicity.

Summary: This study identifies CPNE1 as an important modifier in sarcopenia, which regulates myogenic cell proliferation and differentiation through the PERK-eIF2 alpha pathway. Overexpression of CPNE1 leads to increased muscle atrophy characteristics and reduced muscle fibrosis regeneration and exercise capacity. These findings provide a novel target for the treatment of age-related sarcopenia.

Summary: This study investigated the role of CaSR in cognitive impairment induced by obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS), and revealed that it promoted hippocampal neuronal apoptosis through the PERK-ATF4-CHOP pathway. The results indicated that inhibition of CaSR could alleviate cognitive impairment caused by OSAHS.

Summary: Virus-related diseases pose a serious threat to human health, but there are limited antiviral drugs available. This study found that the antipsychotic drug trifluoperazine (TFP) inhibits the replication of vesicular stomatitis virus and herpes simplex virus type 1 through a specific mechanism.

Summary: This study investigated the adverse effects of prenatal exposure to polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) on placental development and function. The results showed that gestational exposure to BDE-209 significantly reduced placental weight, impaired placental vascular development, and induced placental cell apoptosis. Furthermore, BDE-209 exposure also affected placental transport and endocrine function. Mechanistically, BDE-209 activated the endoplasmic reticulum stress-mediated PERK/ATF4/CHOP signaling pathway in mouse placentas, leading to placental injury.
