Summary: Even with proper treatment, gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) can still have a long-term impact on the health of both the mother and the child. The multicentre PREG study aims to characterize the metabolic and phenotypic traits of women with GDM during and after pregnancy, and investigate the effects of maternal hyperglycaemia and treatment on the long-term health of the mother and child.

Summary: Research on extracellular vesicles (EVs) has provided insights into physiological and pathophysiological conditions, particularly during pregnancy. Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a common and influential complication that affects the miRNAs and proteins within EVs, leading to metabolic changes.

Summary: HbA1c shows promise as a biomarker for screening GDM during the first trimester of pregnancy, with a cut-off value of 5.33%, sensitivity of 71.9%, and specificity of 82.8%. Pregnant women with ft-HbA1c levels above the prediabetes limit are at increased risk of developing GDM.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the association between oGTT performed after 28 weeks and the risk of T2DM. The results showed that late oGTT had lower rates of GDM and T2DM. However, once GDM was diagnosed, regardless of oGTT timing, the risk of T2DM was increased.

Summary: This study aimed to identify early and reliable predictors of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Significant baseline and 12-week predictors were found, with early gestational weight gain in IVF-conceived pregnancies being the best predictor of GDM onset.

Summary: The study found an association between height and gestational diabetes (GDM) diagnosis and complications during pregnancy, with shorter women more likely to be diagnosed with GDM, and GDM being more strongly associated with complications such as preterm delivery and higher birthweight among taller women.

Summary: Gestational glucose intolerance (GGI), an abnormal initial gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) screening test without a GDM diagnosis, is associated with an increased risk of future diabetes. Individuals with GGI have a higher risk of developing diabetes compared to those with normal glucose tolerance during pregnancy. Routine clinical data can be used to identify this unrecognized group who may benefit from enhanced diabetes screening and prevention.

Summary: In pregnant women with diabetes risk factors, fasting glucose levels decrease in the first trimester while post-load glucose levels increase later in pregnancy. These findings could help establish criteria for diagnosing hyperglycaemia early in pregnancy.

Summary: This study evaluated the association between early pregnancy glycosylated hemoglobin levels and gestational diabetes mellitus among pregnant women in a tertiary care hospital in eastern India. The results suggest that HbA1c can be used as a biomarker for predicting GDM when included in a multi-marker approach for high- and low-risk pregnant groups.

Summary: This study explores the association between thyroid hormones and gestational diabetes mellitus in euthyroid pregnant women and finds that the ratio of free triiodothyronine-to-free thyroxine is an independent risk factor for gestational diabetes mellitus and has the potential to be a predictor for gestational diabetes mellitus in euthyroid pregnant women.

Summary: This study examined the association between dietary patterns and abnormal glucose tolerance (AGT) in women post-gestational diabetes mellitus. It found that the "cereals-confectionaries" dietary pattern was significantly associated with AGT. Therefore, targeted lifestyle modifications, including dietary interventions, are needed for women post-gestational diabetes to reduce the risk of AGT.

Summary: The study revealed a correlation between maternal body mass index and oral glucose tolerance test results, indicating that women who were overweight before pregnancy were more likely to develop hyperglycemia. Additionally, abnormal 2-hour postprandial glucose levels during gestational oral glucose tolerance test may influence postpartum oral glucose tolerance test outcomes.

Summary: This study investigated DNA methylation patterns in neonates born to mothers with E-GDM, and found that there were no significant differences in DNA methylation between the E-GDM group and normal OGTT group. Neonates born to mothers with GDM diagnosed based on Japan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology criteria may not differ in DNA methylation compared to those born to normal OGTT mothers.

Summary: This study evaluated the predictive accuracy of published risk estimation models for the development of GDM in early pregnancy. Most models showed acceptable discrimination but lacked calibration, with simple biochemical variables like fasting glucose, HbA1c, and triglycerides improving risk prediction. A model incorporating clinical and laboratory parameters demonstrated satisfactory accuracy for further investigations.
