Short variation of the sheep PDGFD gene is correlated with litter size

The PDGFD gene plays a crucial role in sheep reproduction, and a 18-bp variation is associated with litter size. This variant can be used as an effective marker for sheep breeding.
Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) family, exert plays a key role in embryonic development, cell proliferation, cell migration, angiogenesis and reproduction. Related studies about GWAS analyses have found that PDGFD significantly affected deposition of tail fat in sheep, but there are no studies on reproduction in animals. In this study, three breed of sheep were used to find insertion/deletion (indel) fragment polymorphism of PDGFD which including Australian white (AUW) sheep (Meat type, n = 932), Guiqian semi-fine wool (GSFW) sheep (wool type, n = 60) and East Friensian milk (EFM) sheep (dairy type, n = 60). Only a 18-bp variation was polymorphic in the study AUW sheep population and the genotypes of different sheep breed are also specific. Moreover, the association analysis indicated that this variant was associated with litter size of AUW sheep in the first parity (p < 0.05). The litter size of II genotype was significantly lower than other genotypes in the first parity (p < 0.05). We also revealed that the PDGFD gene was relatively conservative in eight species, PDGFD mRNA expression in 832 sheep samples implying this gene was related to reproduction traits. Hence, these finding demonstrated the one -cause multipotency of PDGFD gene. Collectively, these results suggest that this indel can be used as an effective marker for sheep breeding.

Rapid analysis of Baijiu volatile compounds fingerprint for their aroma and regional origin authenticity assessment

Summary: Solid-phase microextraction-mass spectrometry (SPME-MS) and fast gas chromatography based electronic nose (GC-E-Nose) were compared for their ability to distinguish Baijiu of various aroma types and geographical origin. It was found that the SPME-MS method had better fitness and prediction ability compared with the GC-E-Nose method in classifying aroma and regional origins of the Baijiu samples.

Study on the Association between LRRC8B Gene InDel and Sheep Body Conformation Traits

Two InDel polymorphisms in the HOXA11 gene were identified and genotyped, and they were found to be significantly correlated with various beef traits. These findings provide a new perspective for marker-assisted selection (MAS) strategies in molecular breeding of cattle.

Genome-wide regulation of Pol II, FACT, and Spt6 occupancies by RSC in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

Summary: RSC is an essential ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling complex in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. It regulates nucleosome-depleted regions (NDRs) by sliding flanking nucleosomes away from NDRs. Depletion of RSC leads to nucleosome encroachment in NDRs and transcription initiation defects. The study compared the effects of catalytic-dead Sth1 and rapid depletion of Sth1 on transcription. Rapid depletion of Sth1 reduces recruitment of TBP and Pol II, while the catalytic-dead mutant exhibits a severe reduction in TBP binding but accumulates Pol II in coding regions. The results suggest a role for RSC in transcription elongation and termination processes.

Age-different BMSCs-derived exosomes accelerate tendon-bone interface healing in rotator cuff tears model
