This study demonstrates that weakly alkaline layered double hydroxide nanoparticles (LDH NPs) can remodel the suppressive tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) and enhance antitumor immune responses, showing promising potential for solid tumor immunotherapy.
Cancer immunotherapy efficacy is largely limited by the suppressive tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) where antitumor immune cells are inhibited and tumor antigens continue to mutate or be lost. To remodel the TIME, we here applied weakly alkaline layered double hydroxide nanoparticles (LDH NPs) to neutralize the excess acid and block autophagy of tumor cells for neoadjuvant cancer immunotherapy. Peritumoral injection of LDH NPs provided a long-term and efficient acid-neutralization in the TIME, blocked the lysosome-mediated autophagy pathway in tumor cells, and increased the levels of antitumor tumor-associated macrophages and T cells. These LDH NPs captured tumor antigens released in the tumor tissues and effectively inhibited the growth of both melanoma and colon tumors in vivo. These findings indicate that LDH NPs, as an immunomodulator and adjuvant, successfully awaken and promote the host innate and adaptive immune systems, showing promising potential for solid tumor immunotherapy.

Tao Liu, Zhibin Feng, Zhan Li, Zefeng Lin, Lingling Chen, Binglin Li, Zehua Chen, Zugui Wu, Juan Zeng, Jingwei Zhang, Jiaying Hong, Hong Xia, Lihua Li, Xiangling Ye, Ying Zhang

Summary: A mussel-inspired multifunctional hydrogel (CAC/PDA/Cu(H2O2)) was prepared, which exhibited antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and angiogenesis-promoting properties, accelerating wound healing. The hydrogel showed excellent therapeutic effects in Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) induced-rat infection models, efficiently eliminating MRSA, significantly reducing inflammatory expression, promoting angiogenesis, and ultimately shortening the wound healing time.

Molecular Networking Accelerated Discovery of Biflavonoid Alkaloids from Cephalotaxus sinensis

Fuxin Zhang, Ruixi Zhou, Tao Yang, Kailing Yang, Saisai Xin, Jingwei Zhang, Yuqiu Li, Guanqun Zhan, Zengjun Guo

Summary: Four undescribed biflavonoid alkaloids, sinenbiflavones A-D, were isolated from Cephalotaxus sinensis using a MS/MS-based molecular networking guided strategy. Their structures were elucidated by series of spectroscopic methods (HR-ESI-MS, UV, IR, 1D, and 2D NMR). Sinenbiflavones A-D are the first examples of amentoflavone-type (C-3'-C-8'') biflavonoid alkaloids. Meanwhile, sinenbiflavones B and D are the unique C-6-methylated amentoflavone-type biflavonoid alkaloids. Sinenbiflavone D showed weak SARS-CoV-2 3CL(pro) inhibitory activity with 43% inhibition rate at 40 mu M.

Phyllosphere antibiotic resistome in a natural primary vegetation across a successional sequence after glacier retreat

Jian Li, Tim J. Daniell, Ming-Kang Jin, Rui-Ying Chang, Tao Wang, Jing Zhang, Xiao-Ru Yang, Yong-Guan Zhu

Summary: The spread of antibiotic-resistance genes (ARGs) has become a significant threat to human health. However, little is known about the profile and drivers of ARGs in the phyllosphere, which is an important habitat for microorganisms. In this study, leaf samples were collected from different stages of plant community succession to investigate the development of phyllosphere ARGs in natural habitats. The results showed that the presence of ARGs in the phyllosphere is influenced by environmental factors such as plant community composition, host leaf properties, and the phyllosphere microbiome.

Summary: This study investigates the microbial communities and abundance of genes related to nutrient cycling on the leaves of different plant species in urban and natural environments. The results show significant differences in leaf microbial communities between urban and natural habitats, with plant species being a major influencing factor. Leaf functional traits are identified as potential drivers of both phyllosphere microbial community structure and nutrient cycling gene abundance.

Cytotoxicity, endocrine disrupting activity, and chemical analysis of 42 food contact silicone rubber products

Di Feng, Xueyan Li, Xiaojie Fan, Yifan Guo, Jingwei Zhang, Hang Yuan, Wenjuan Wang, Tingting Zhao, Tian Han

Summary: The cytotoxicity and endocrine-disruption activity of 42 food contact silicone products (FCSPs) obtained from the Chinese market were studied. The results showed that 96% of the kitchenwares and 84% of the products showed cytotoxicity and estrogenic/anti-estrogenic/androgenic/anti-androgenic activities respectively. However, 11 bottle nipples showed no cytotoxicity or hormonal activity. Overall, it is important to detect the toxicity of final products since FCSPs can contain complex chemical substances that result in biological toxicity.

ArhGAP11A mediates amyloid-D generation and neuropathology in an Alzheimer's disease-like mouse model

Ya-ru Huang, Xi-xiu Xie, Jing Yang, Xiao-ying Sun, Xiao-yun Niu, Cheng-gang Yang, Ling-jie Li, Lun Zhang, Dan Wang, Chun-yu Liu, Sheng-jie Hou, Chen-yang Jiang, Yu-ming Xu, Rui-tian Liu

Summary: In this study, it was found that the levels of ArhGAP11A significantly increase in patients with AD and APP/PS1 mice. By reducing ArhGAP11A level in neurons, both AD generation and ADo neurotoxicity can be inhibited through the RhoA/ROCK/Erk signaling pathway. Furthermore, specific reduction of ArhGAP11A level significantly reduces AD production, plaque deposition, and improves neuronal damage, neuroinflammation, and cognitive deficits in APP/PS1 mice.

Summary: The factors affecting the lubrication effect of a ball bearing without cage and containing a functional slot are analyzed, and an initial oil volume equation is established. Using the multiple mesh method and Matlab programming, the distribution rules of oil film pressure, thickness, and flow rate are obtained under different speed conditions. The experiment verifies that lubricating oil in the functional slot can have a lubricating effect, and the required initial amount of lubricating oil increases with speed.

Li Tao, Jingwei Zhang, Wenfei Lan, Lei Yu, Yunfeng Bi, Shixin Song, Boyu Xiong, Heyu Wang

Summary: This review summarizes the principles and influencing factors of polysaccharide decolorization and compares different decolorization methods. Research findings show that polysaccharide decolorization mainly focuses on plant polysaccharides, and the measurement indices for decolorization effect include decolorization ratio, polysaccharide recovery ratio, and comprehensive evaluation index. Resin adsorption is the most widely used method for polysaccharide decolorization. Structural characterization was performed to determine the impact of decolorization on polysaccharide structure and functions. The limitations of current research on polysaccharide decolorization have also been discussed.

Jingwei Zhang, Yin-Da Wang, Yunqiu Wu, Kai Kang, Wen-Yan Yin

Summary: To improve the performance of on-chip interconnects, a transfer learning-based deep neural network (TL-DNN) is proposed for the inverse and fully-automatic design. The TL-DNN surrogate model consists of two DNNs, where the first DNN maps performance parameters to geometric parameters, and the second DNN is trained using electromagnetic solver space datasets. The proposed method achieves a high testing accuracy of 93.67% and requires only 6.15 hours of modeling time compared to other design methods.
